Jason Peters woke up in his bedroom in the morning. He had returned at midnight from the Blue Moon party with a woman. After some action, she had left and he dozed off immediately. He freshened up and was making his way down the stairs for breakfast. All the stairways in their mansion were decorated with photographs of the family in black frames. Some photos were in black and white and some colored. His eyes abruptly fell upon a big frame of a family photo from the time when his father was a kid and his grandparents were alive, and then it hit him.
Now I know why she looked so familiar. But how is it possible? Is it just a coincidence? This is interesting. Thought Jason grinning from ear to ear.
Alfred was sitting in his study going through some finance reports. He couldn't concentrate because every few minutes Rachel's face would pop up in his mind. He remembered his fight with Rachel last night. He also remembered how they started getting physical. But the sight of her in the morning had shocked him more than anything. He also remembered the death stare from his father and the puzzled look from Avery.
Did I do that to her?
(Ray) All the credit goes to you. Ray was very angry and disappointed with Alfred.
She deserved it then.
(Ray) Did she?!
Why did it take so long for her to heal?
(Ray) You can always ask her.
Alfred realized that Rachel was avoiding him. He felt the hatred and agony coming from her. It pained him for the first time. The more he tried to convince himself that he was not at fault for her current state, the more he felt guilty and confused.
Rachel was sitting in her room reading a book in the evening. She had taken leave from work for a few days given her physical condition and mental state. She had already been examined by Ramirez's family doctor and was under medication. The doctor suspected that the slow healing was possibly due to her hibernating wolf. She remembered how silent everyone was at breakfast, as if they knew what had happened between her and Alfred. They were astonished at first, especially Avery and Albus. She didn't bother to look at Alfred, not even a glance. Because she didn't want to know how he felt. She wanted to save whatever was left of her broken heart. She was in a state of numbness where her brain had started blocking the memories and any emotion from forming inside her.
Rachel's phone rang. It was an unidentified number.
"Hello?"
"Hello Miss Luna, recognize me from the party?"
"I doubt I was sober enough to recognize anyone just by their voice", said Rachel. She wondered who it was.
"Of course!" laughed the other person. "This is Jason."
"Oh! Hi Jason." He was the last person she expected to contact her.
"At least you remember my name."
"Who can forget the name of the Silver Moon pack's alpha?"
"Future alpha."
"My bad", chuckled Rachel. "How did you get my number?"
"I have my way of finding things."
"Good for you."
"Alright, coming to the point, are you available sometime this week for a cup of coffee?"
"A cup of coffee?" repeated Rachel startled.
"Yeah. I have an interesting finding to share with you. Consider it just a friendly date. I don't want to get killed by your mate", teased Jason.
"What finding? What is it about?"
"Patience. I promise it won't be a waste of your time."
"Okay.. I'll message you the day and time."
"Fantastic. See you soon."
"See you soon."
Rachel couldn't wait to find out what Jason's call was all about. She texted him immediately to meet her the day after tomorrow at 4 in the evening. On the day of their "friendly" date, they met at a café that was familiar to Rachel. When she arrived, she saw Jason waiting for her at a table. He looked smart in a white hoodie and blue jeans. He wore a headband and his long grey hair was tied in a small ponytail.
As soon as he saw Rachel, he stood up and waved at her. Rachel was wearing a turtle-neck crop top with full sleeves and high-waist jeans. She tried her best to hide her scars with concealer and clothes. She left her hair open with some curls towards the tip. Jason thought that she looked cute in casual.
"Hey!"
"Hi," said Rachel awkwardly.
"How have you been?"
"Sort of fine."
They ordered two cups of coffee and a muffin each.
"Alright, where do I start? Let me show you something." Jason took out his smartphone from his pocket and started searching for something. He handed over the phone to Rachel.
"Take a look." Rachel was looking at a family photograph that looked at least a decade old.
"I don't understand. What am I looking at?"
"This is an old photograph of the Silver Moon family. Look here, this is my father", he said, pointing at the child in the picture.
"Nice." Rachel was still clueless as to what it had to do with her.
"Do you know who this is?" He was pointing at the woman standing next to his father.
"I don't think so. I guess your grandmother."
"Correct. She is the former Luna of the Silver Moon pack."
"Okay. Is she alive?"
"No. She died before I was born."
"I am sorry."
"Does it ring any bells?"
"Ummm.. I hardly know anything about your wolf pack, let alone about your grandmother. "
"Do you remember me saying that I thought I had seen you before?"
"Yes, I remember that. And I remember not taking you seriously", snickered Rachel. Jason smiled and simply looked at the phone in her hand.
"You have her eyes."
"Really? Aren't brown eyes common though?", asked Rachel, still confused.
"Not ones with blue rings on them like yours."
"I see." Rachel looked at Jason, expecting some more details.
"When I saw the resemblance I was even more curious, and tried to dig out a photograph of my great-grandmother. Trust me, I nearly gave up before I found this one. Now take a look at it."
She looked at the woman in the photograph attentively. Then slowly it dawned upon her on what he was leading to.
"Is this a joke? She looks exactly like me."
"Darling, isn't it the other way round?" teased Jason. Rachel was simply astounded by the coincidence.
