''I'll be back later, Brenda!'' I shouted, opening the front door.
''Okay! Have fun!'' she shouted back as I closed the door behind me.
Yeah, right. You're suppose to have fun when you find out that your best friend's a werewolf and almost devours your other best friend. How can that be fun?
As soon as I got out of the house, I spotted Stiles' jeep and quickly hopped in. Stiles gave me a closed-mouth smile as he said, ''Let's go hunt a werewolf.''
***
''So, how did it happen?'' I asked while he drove.
''Well, I went to the Clinic, you know, just to be a good friend and visit Scott, because he was working tonight, and when I arrived, I saw him and he was shaking. Like, madly shaking. And when I looked closer his eyes changed color, he had claws growing, and he was hairy. Well, more than usual.'' Stiles explained. I nodded once he finished.
''To think that I used to believe that werewolves existed, back when I was younger," I said out loud. "And, well, it turns out that I was right."
"Maybe all of those werewolf movies were actually hints," he said with a gasp. "Hints to make us realize that werewolves really do exist. It's the government, I tell you."
"Oh, shut up, Stiles."
Once we reached the forest, Stiles stopped the Jeep and both of us hopped out of it. ''Come on.'' Stiles said, waving his hand at me, motioning for me to follow him.
Like 2 minutes of walking passed by, and we finally stopped in front of an abandoned house, which, for some reason, was still there. ''What?,'' I tried to catch his attention. "It's just an old house."
''This... is Derek Hale's house.'' Stiles clarified, as if I knew who Derek was.
''Who?''
''Derek Hale,'' he repeated, finally looking at me. ''His family died in a fire, so that's why his house looks like this.''
I eyed the house again, still unsure as to why he was bringing that up. "... Okay, then? So, what are we doing here?"
"We're checking to see if he knows where Scott is." Stiles replied, as if it was obvious. Then, he started heading towards the house.
I stood there agape, following him after a few seconds. "Wha-are you telling me that that Derek guy still lives in this house?"
"Yeah."
"And how do you know all of this?," I asked him. "Do you know him? And who is this Derek Hale anyway, what does he do?"
"Oh, right, we forgot to tell you. He's this really creepy guy that we met a few days ago, and apparently he's also a werewolf," Stiles answered as I started to kick the leaves that were lying on the ground, although what he said caught me off guard. "And also, he said that he can help Scott cure himself."
"Wait, what?," I said. "How?"
"Heck, I don't know," he said. "I'm new to this whole supernatural thingy."
"Right."
All of a sudden, we heard noises, similar to growls, coming from the bushes. Stiles and I stopped in our tracks, directing our looks to where the noises were coming from. And with every second that passed, they got louder and louder. "What the-?" I started talking, but Stiles quickly covered my mouth with his hand.
Soon we knew it, two guys came into view, rolling around on the floor as they fought, and looking like they were going to rip each other's heads off. When they quickly stood up again, facing each other, I realized that it was Scott and another guy that I didn't know, but I could only assume that it was the so mentioned Derek Hale, because of the way he looked. Black hair, golden eyes, sharp teeth, claws, leather clothing, and a lot of facial hair. Scott looked kinda the same, minus the clothing. My eyes widened at the sight of him, his transformed body hovering on top of Derek's in seconds, trying to scratch any body part he could get. I took a step back, suddenly feeling terror running through me. I thought Derek was supposed to help Scott, so why were they fighting?
''Okay, guys, that's enough!'' Stiles shouted, both of them stopping their fight and looking up at the same time.
Scott's golden eyes suddenly turned chocolate brown within seconds. The claws disappeared and so did the facial hair. "Penny? Stiles?" was the first thing he said as he tried to get closer to us.
"Y-you're back to normal." I breathed out, and he looked down at his hands and body to see if it was true.
But before any of us could say anything else, we heard other noises coming from afar. But different from the ones Scott and Derek were making earlier. We all turned our heads at the same time. ''What's that?'' Scott asked.
''Werewolf hunters,'' the other guy replied, still looking at the bushes. But then he looked at Scott. ''I suggest you run inside the house.''
They both did as he told while Stiles and I just stood there staring at their backs. If they had to hide, did we, too? ''What do we do?'' I asked Stiles.
''I don't know. Let's just-'' He stopped talking.
At that very moment, a small group of armed men appeared out of the bushes, all wearing dark clothing. The hunters. Stiles muttered a "s**t" next to me before I grabbed his arm. ''What are you kids doing here?'' the one in the front asked.
''Um...'' Stiles and I looked at each other, not really knowing what to say. I tried to come up with an excuse, but I couldn't think of anything. ''We were just... You know... we were-''
''Making out,'' Stiles cut me off, putting an arm around my shoulder and pulling me closer. I smiled in relief and nodded in agreement, wrapping my arms around his torso. ''Yeah. Our parents don't really like the idea of the two of us dating, so we have to meet up here all the time, It's so tiring. So, uh, could you guys give us a little bit of privacy, please?''
"We'd really appreciate it," I added, pulling Stiles closer. "Since we can barely see each other."
The man that had spoken earlier looked at Stiles, and then at me, his gaze making me feel nervous and uncomfortable. He then gave me a very faint smile. I just tried to keep up the act. ''Go ahead. But I suggest you guys head back to your homes soon. It's dangerous out here.''
''Will do, sir,'' Stiles said. Before they left, Stiles called them back. "Wait!"
They turned around while I just stood there, staring at him with wide eyes. "What?"
"You're not... gonna tell our parents, right?"
The "leader" of the group gave Stiles a look, as if he was an i***t. "We're hunters, not cops, kid."
And before they walked away, I swear I heard the guy muttering something that sounded like, "Dumbass."
''Oh, that was a close one.'' I sighed in relief, both of us untangling from each other.
''I know," Stiles said. "Let's go tell Scott and Derek.''
''Yeah, okay."
As soon as we entered the house, Stiles started shouting as I looked around. ''Guys! They're gone!''
How could this Derek live like this?
They came out from the top of the stairway after a few seconds. ''Scott,'' I called as I walked towards him, giving him a big hug. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," He hugged back instantly. ''Penny, you're not supposed to be here. It's dangerous.''
I broke the hug. ''I know, but Stiles told me about you being a werewolf and we came here looking for you. I couldn't let you go all werewolf crazy all around Beacon Hills. Anyway, I also wanted to clarify things between us because I was kind of a b***h to you and I don't want you to be mad at me because of it.'' I said, all in one breath.
''I wasn't mad at you," he said, which made me let out a breath of relief. "I thought you were mad at me, so that's why I gave you your space for the rest of the day. You don't have to apologize. Even if I was mad, I could never stay mad at you.''
I grinned and hugged him once more, this time even tighter. ''You guys make a cute couple.'' Stiles said all of a sudden.
I looked at him wide-eyed, giving him a look to stop him from talking, and he did, and I realized that he had said it without thinking. Scott gave him a confused look. ''Oh, sorry, that just came out of nowhere,'' Stiles stuttered. "Just a stupid thought, don't mind me."
''Don't be ridiculous, Stiles. I don't think we could ever date. Penny and I are like brother and sister. Right, Penny?'' Scott said, placing his arms around my shoulder and looking down at me, smiling.
Ouch.
''Yeah, of course'' I said, giving him a weak smile and a nod.
Stiles seemed to notice my slight disappointment and gave me an apologetic look. I smiled at him in reassurance, quietly telling him that it was okay, that I was going to be fine.
I was used to it.
''You guys shouldn't be here.'' Derek spoke up. It was then that I noticed the real color of his eyes.
''What do you mean?'' Scott asked, not removing his arm.
''First of all, this is my house. And second, they might come back,'' Derek replied, looking at the front door. "They won't hesitate on breaking into this house, twice."
''He's right.'' I said, looking back up at Scott.
''Fine. Let's go''
As we made our way to Stiles' jeep I got a text message. It was from none other than the famous Lydia Martin:
'Hey! Do you think you can come to my house RIGHT NOW? I need help with something, It's an emergency!'
I quickly turned to Stiles. ''Hey Stiles, do you think you could drop me at Lydia's?''
He went wide-eyed, his bottom lip trembling nervously. ''L-L-Lydia? As in Lydia Martin?''
''No, no, Lydia Delgado,'' I replied sarcastically. ''Of course Lydia Martin.''
He nodded like an i***t. Not that he wasn't one, but yeah. ''S-sure.''
I laughed at him. He's had a crush on Lydia ever since like third grade.
I texted her:
'I'm on my way!'
