I sighed as we all walked out of the classroom after the bell rang. Last night, I couldn't sleep much, just thinking if whether I should say yes or no to Calvin. But, even with all that thinking, I still didn't have an answer for him.
When I entered the lunch hall, I spotted Allison sitting across from... ''LYDIA!'' I squealed, running towards her and wrapping my arms around her from behind.
''Ow! Penny, you're going to kill me!'' she said, but I could still hear her chuckling.
Laughing, I untangled myself from her and quickly sat down on the chair next to hers. ''Well, I'm sorry for missing you," I said, playfully rolling my eyes. "Hey, Allison.''
''Hey, Penny," she said, and then she smirked. "How did your date with Calvin go?"
I was about to reply, but Lydia beat me to it. ''Date? You went on a date with Calvin? Calvin Williams?''
Her eyes big as tennis balls made me realize thay I never had a chance to tell her about the date. She was absent and, top to it all off, prescription drugged. So, I nodded and she gasped loudly. ''Oh my God, how did it go? What did you guys do? I need to know everything.''
I laughed shaking my head. ''No, we didn't kiss. We went to the movies and then we ate some strawberries at a table he set up in the forest. And it was great. He was very nice and sweet. And...''
''And what?'' Allison asked, leaning against the table.
''And,'' I continued, biting my lip. ''He asked me out, again.''
''OH MY GOD!'' Lydia shouted, making everyone turn to us.
''Thank you, Lydia, I definitely want everyone to know about this.'' I said, rolling my eyes.
''Sorry. Everyone can stop looking now!,'' she said to everyone in the room. The people watching continued with what they were doing, and she turned back to me. ''So, what did you tell him?''
''Well, I told him that I would think about it.'' I said.
''You should say yes.'' Lydia quickly said, looking sure of it.
''Totally.'' Allison agreed.
''I don't know," I said with a sigh. "I mean, he's a nice guy, and I liked going out with him, but I'm not even sure if I want to keep doing it."
''Well, if you liked going out with him then you should say yes. And maybe this could be a good opportunity to finally forget about S-Ow!'' I stomped Lydia's foot before she could finish her sentence.
Allison furrowed her eyebrows. ''Forget about what?''
I gave Lydia a warning look, and she stared back, trying to think of something. ''Forget about... some things that have been bothering her lately. You know, like school, homework, things like that.''
"Oh, right," Allison nodded, thankfully she didn't seem to suspect anything. "Yeah, It'd be nice to forget about those."
"So, Allison," Lydia spoke again. "You were saying something about your family's past or something like that?"
''Yes,'' Allison said, as if she suddenly remembered something. ''Well, I had to do a History project on my family, and so my aunt gave me something to look for-" she opened the book in front of her. "La Bête du Gévaudan. It says here that it is 'Historys most vicious, most famous werewolf', and apparently one of my ancestors was the one to kill it. Here's a picture of it."
She put the book in front of us, and in the picture there was a werewolf, but it was bigger, darker, and it definitely looked more dangerous. And when I looked at it closely, I realized that it almost resembled the one in Lydia's video. With my eyes wide open, I looked back at Lydia. She seemed to notice, as well. ''Lydia?'' I called, but she didn't respond.
''Lydia.'' Allison called again, after a few seconds. Still nothing.
Her eyes were also wide and she wasn't moving. She was just sitting there, staring at the picture as if the creature was going to jump out of the book and attack her at any second. ''Lydia.'' I called one more time, this time louder.
She snapped out of her trance and looked at Allison and I, both of us staring worriedly at her. ''Are you okay?'' I asked.
She didn't react at first, but then she nodded as if nothing had happened. ''Yeah, why wouldn't I be? It's just a picture. Nothing else.'' standing up, she put on her usual confident look and left.
Allison looked at me. ''Well, that was weird.''
''I know. Did you see how scared she looked when she saw the picture?'' I said.
''Yeah'' she nodded. ''Like she's seen it before.''
I wanted to say that she probably had seen something similar, but Allison still didn't know what was happening around Beacon Hills. "She's probably still shaken because of the prescription drugs." I said, instead.
She nodded in agreement. "Maybe."
"Hey Allison, can I take a picture of those pages?" I asked her.
She didn't seem to understand why I wanted to do so, but she still handed me the book. I thanked her and took the pictures. "I should get going," I said afterwards. "I'm gonna go check on Lydia and see if she's okay."
"Okay," she said. "See you later, then?"
"Yeah. Bye."
Allison still didn't seem to know about what their family did exactly, but if she kept on the research, she would find out eventually...
