As I walked through the school hall, looking for my locker, I spotted it... only that Lydia and Jackson were blocking it because they were sucking each other's face off, and I had no other choice but to interfere because my books were getting too heavy to carry. When I stood in front of them, they didn't notice that I was there immediately, which made things even more awkward. Well, Isn't this amazing?
I cleared my throat quietly. Nothing. I cleared it, again, but this time louder. Their lips stopped moving and both of them quickly pulled away. ''Penny!'' Lydia breathed, her eyebrows furrowed.
I gave her an awkward smile. ''Hi there, Lydia. Jackson''
She returned the smile, as awkward as mine. Jackson was just standing there, throwing daggers at me with his look. ''Need anything?''
"Uh, yeah, actually. I need you to get out of the way, so I can open my locker... please.'' I pointed behind them.
She looked confused at first, but then she noticed that she and Jackson were, indeed, blocking my locker, and she blushed a deep shade of red. ''Oh!,'' she said. ''Oh my God, I'm so sorry.''
''It's okay. You got carried away with your little make-out session there. I totally understand.'' I said, looking from Lydia to Jackson.
"Jealous?," Jackson smirked, as if he had hit a nerve and his words had some type of effect on me. Lydia slapped his chest, but I honestly couldn't have cared less about what he said. "Why don't you find someone who can actually keep up with you so you can do the same and stop bugging us?"
"Why don't you do everyone here a favor and go choke on something?," I spat back. Then, I turned to Lydia, who was still glaring at him. "Uh, Lydia?"
Her eyes turned to me, again. "Huh?"
I gave a little wave with my hand, motioning for her to get out of the way, since they were both still in the same spot. She seemed to get it quickly because she moved aside, and my locker was now in view. ''Thank you.'' I smiled, opening the locker after entering the combination.
I placed my notebook and the few books that I was holding inside and, as soon as I finished, I closed it again. As I walked away, I could still feel the awkwardness between the couple and I, and I could feel it even more as I felt their eyes on me the whole time.
''Penny, wait!'' Lydia shouted, catching up with me and leaving Jackson behind.
I stopped walking and turned to her, seeing her expression change quickly. I already knew that she was gonna suggest something. ''Let's go shopping after school. You can bring Karen, of course.''
Of course. ''Sure, Lydia.''
"Great!," she said, beaming. "And, um, very sorry about the little... scene you had to witness. Also, sorry about Jackson's attitude."
"Whatever, really, about both things," I assured her. "You know I'm used to Jackson being an asshole."
She gave me a small smile, but this time I saw something else in her eyes that she wasn't telling me about. But I couldn't give it much thought because, soon I knew it, Karen arrived with a magazine in her hands.
''Lydia, I just saw the most beautiful shoes ever, oh my God!,'' she said with a gasp. ''You're gonna die when you see them, they're freaking glittery!''
''Show me,'' Lydia said, both of them bringing full attention to the magazine now. Lydia gasped as well. "We need those. We. Need. Those. Immediately. And we will buy them after school."
"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you," Karen hugged the magazine to her chest, looking as if she was about to cry out of happiness. "You're, like, my fashion Jesus."
"I know." Lydia said proudly, and I laughed at both of them, until something else caught my eye. It was a guy, a guy that looked really familiar. And as I kept staring at his face, it suddenly hit me. Derek Hale. Before I knew what I was doing, I started walking towards him, leaving the girls behind.
''Derek? What are you doing here?'' I asked once I reached him.
He looked at me, raising an eyebrow. ''Aren't you Scott's girlfriend?''
I blushed, but I quickly cleared things up by shaking my head no. ''I'm not, I'm just his... friend.''
''Whatever. Have you seen him?'' he asked.
''Nope, why?''
''I need to tell him something and It's very important.'' he said, looking around the students passing us by.
''Oh, well if you want, I can just-''
''Penny, you left us hanging," I heard Karen say as she and Lydia walked towards us. "You're very rude."
''Sorry,'' I told them, and then I realized that they were staring at Derek in confusion. "Oh, uh, Lydia, Karen, this is Derek Hale. He's a... friend of Scott's."
Lydia smiled, but she didn't seem to care less. Karen waved. "Hi."
He just nodded at them. ''I better go find Scott.'' was the only thing he said before he left.
''Oh my God,'' Karen muttered, still staring at Derek's back. "Penny, where did you guys meet him? He's freaking hot."
"We just... met him around." I said, because I didn't think of anything else to say.
"Well, it certainly around school," Lydia pointed out. "What, are you guys living doubles lives now?"
Oh, she had no idea.
