1 DAY BEFORE
Mia awoke in the middle of the night due to an unsettling sound resembling a loud knock. She was the only one awakened by that sound, and it was probably a fantastic survival strategy for others who were brave enough to close their eyes and ignore unexpected noises at night. Perhaps she should make notes, Mia thought to herself.
She sleeps in the third top bunk near the window, which appears to be a large window, in her tiny school dormitory, which has five bunk beds. After what she heard, she wouldn't go back to sleep. Was this just her imagination? After all, nobody else seemed to be awake. As she got out of bed, Mia thought, Curiosity has its own character. It's nighttime, and the small lamp outside the dorm room provides enough light to prevent her from bumping into the feet of other beds. A small breeze suddenly blew by her as she cautiously opened the door. It made her shiver. "The weather sure is cold," Mia thought to herself.
She had an early class tomorrow and didn't even know what time it was, so when she arrived in the hallway, she wasn't really sure why she was there. Curiosity does have its bounds, Mia realized. She chose to check the time before going to bed instead of pursuing the foolish idea of going after a sound that she wasn't even sure she heard. The hostel's simple policy of "no clocks in rooms" seemed somewhat outdated to Mia, who sighed and decided to wear a watch each and every night. The main clock was located in the hall room below.
As Mia walked down the stairs, she noticed something else that bothered her besides the clock: the little oil lamps outside each room. "Welcome to the 21st century," Mia thought to herself. She felt shivers down her spine as she peered around the enormous hall. She can't resist the need to glance around as something inside of her tells her she's not alone in the room.
