CHAPTER 3

“Lady Rosetta! Lady Rosetta! You need to see this!” The young personal assistant of an Envoy’s daughter exclaimed as she rushed to show her mistress a video that was trending.

“Stop shouting, silly!” She scolded her. If they had been in her private chamber, she wouldn’t have minded . But, they were at the Royale Beauty saloon, a place where only one percent of one percent of society came. The women in the saloon were people of high status. You had to be swimming in generational wealth and connection to be allowed in there.

As her personal assistant had made a lot of noise, she had grabbed the attention of the ladies in there.

“Rosetta, what’s up with that girl there? Are you having problems training her ?” Lady Susan, always the first one to put her nose in other people’s business. She was the Duchess of Edinburgh, back in Europe. She and her husband had decided to volunteer to visit the pack for a diplomatic mission. She came from a long line of wealthy and powerful people. She was a lady Rosetta wouldn’t wish to mess with.

“You know you can always tell us if you have a problem training your new assistant, dear. I know some effective methods. I am always willing to share if you’re interested.” Lady Cara, the I-know-it-all of the group. She liked to act like she was important. But, everyone knew the only reason she was relevant in society was because she managed to get married to an old Duke.

“You can share them with me, Cara. My new personal assistant is always getting on my nerves.” Lady Susan was a ruthless woman. She didn’t care about life at all. Most people of the high society disagreed with her way of handling things. But no one except the alpha had the guts to speak up as she was very powerful.

“Have you heard of this training device? What did they call it?....” Lady Cara tried recollecting one of the latest training tools. Lady Rosetta was sure Lady Cara wouldn’t be able to afford it even if her husband sold all of their properties. The device was that expensive.

“Aha! ‘Talk and torture’. It’s the most effective training tool I know so far. When you wear it on your servants, it can record all the things they say throughout the day. And if they talk louder than the number of decibels allowed on the setting, they get hit with electric shocks.” Lady Cara spoke like she had already used it.

“Won’t it kill them?” Lady Rosetta asked with feigned concern.

“ No, my darling. You’re so adorable when you pity these servants.” She laughed before she continued. “ It hits them with a dose of electric shock, just the right amount to punish them. They won’t die from it unless they are fragile humans. “

Of course, Lady Rosetta knew that! She just didn’t want the women to know how twisted and sadistic she was. She loved keeping up the ‘sweet girl’ image. Besides, it was one of the things that made the alpha interested in her.

“Humans, they're the worst! A slight dose of electric shock is enough to send them to their grave. They are so fragile and weak. It’s almost impossible to train them properly,” Lady Susan lamented. She had probably killed a lot of humans with the excuse of training them.

“I know right. That’s why I don’t ever let Howard hire any human in the house or worse, a breeder.” Lady Cara harrumphed.

“I wish there hope is a way to get rid of them totally, forever, “ Lady Susan suggested. Despite the fact that most werewolves despised humans, not many agreed to kill them for no just reason.

“But, won’t that affect our race? We are using them to birth more pups since their circle goes on every month, unlike ours, and we don’t have the numbers to fill out the continents we have conquered.” Lady Rosetta feigned concern again to seem naïve and thoughtful to the women.

“I know, dear. But, that does not make them tolerable.” Lady Susan’s disapproval was evident in her voice.

“The breeder in my home tried to snatch away my position as the countess. She thought giving birth to four pups was enough to increase her status. “ Lady Cara told her story to gain sympathy.

“What??”

“Oh no!”

“That’s horrible!”

The rest of the women acted surprised. They acted like they hadn’t heard the rumours of how her husband had preferred the company of a human girl to her.

“Cara, why didn’t you tell me about it sooner?” Lady Susan, the leading actress, asked in a subtle mocking tone that lady Cara would have picked up if she wasn’t so daft.

“It is not something I can easily talk about. Besides, I dealt with her swiftly. “ She harrumphed with the tip of her nose raised in the air.

“That’s how it’s done!” Lady Susan was the first to hail the Duchess for ‘dealing with the human’. Everyone in the room knew the reason why the human girl was missing was because she was killed by lady Cara. Everyone knew about it. But no one confronted her.

“Yeah!”

“Well done!”

Other women in the saloon who had been quiet all along suddenly cheered the duchess.

“These lowly humans think they're worth more than their wombs. The sooner they realize they have nothing, the better for everyone.” One of them said,

While they kept discussing, Lady Rosetta called her personal assistant to the side to ask, “What do I need to see?” She whispered. She didn’t want those women to make her the subject of discussion again.

“Here’s the video, ma’am.” The young girl places the phone in her mistress's hands while positioning herself so no one will see the video either.

The video was about Alpha Daniel leaning towards a human girl. From the angle the video was taken , it looked like they were kissing. But, Lady Rosetta was sure they weren’t. She knew the alpha well enough to know that he wasn’t attracted to anything so weak.

She wanted to trust the man she knew. But, she knew deep inside her that she shouldn’t overlook these little signs. She would make sure nothing happened between them.

“ Has anyone seen the video?” Lady Rosetta asked in a whisper. She wanted to make sure no one saw the video.

“No, ma’am. Not many people have seen it.” Her personal assistant whispered back .

“Tell my Mr. Thompson to get rid of it. I’ll pay him handsomely as usual.” Lady Rosetta could not afford what would come next if everyone saw the video. Part of her standing in society depended on her being the Alpha’s favourite mistress and potential bride.

That was the only reason she was able to sit among the elite women of the pack. Usually, a mere Envoy’s daughter didn’t have much prestige backing her.

Coupled with the fact that female werewolves were few in society and that she had brought a lot of innovative solutions to problems in the pack, that made her more valuable. One thing the public didn’t know about her was that she was the brain behind training tools for servants. Even though she had made a lot of money from that, she had never used them in her household, on any of her servants. She felt she was above all that. She believed there were other ways to get what she wanted without torture.

Her eyes narrowed at the thought of that human girl in her alpha life. If the girl doesn’t know her place, she might be forced to use a training tool on her, one that would be excruciating.

“Rosetta dear, how is the alpha doing? It’s been a while since I last saw him.” Lady Susan asked gracefully. The reason she had come to the saloon that day was to meet Lady Rosetta.

“Why are you asking me, lady Susan?” She blushed.

“Look at her blush… Isn’t she adorable? It’s good to be young.” Lady Cara showered compliments.

“Lady Cara, always the humble one. We all know you always look young and beautiful.” Lady Rosetta had grown up with people like them. So, she knew the best way to respond to their compliments. After all, it was coming at a price.

“We all know that. But, you are the only one that has managed to get close to the alpha.” Lady Susan said. “I’m hosting a dinner party at the mansion I have in Brooklyn. I would love it if you could convince the alpha to attend.”

“That’s no problem, lady Susan. I am sure the Alpha would be delighted to attend a party hosted by someone as wonderful as you. “ Lady Rosetta liked to act like she could persuade the alpha into doing anything for her. And she had people believing that.

“Rosetta dear, do you think the alpha would be willing to invest in my husband’s business?” Lady Cara asked. She didn’t want to miss the opportunity to help her husband’s business. If she could get the alpha to invest in her husband’s business, it would change their financial status for good!

“I am not sure, lady Cara. But, I’m sure your husband's competence should be enough to convince him, “ Lady Rosetta graciously responded. It felt good to have this sort of influence. And it was all thanks to being close to the alpha. Imagine if she ended up being his Luna.

That was her goal. And she wasn’t going to let that filthy human girl take that chance from her.

None of the women in the saloon noticed when the kind Lady Rosetta’s eyes darkened. She remembered when she had met Alpha Daniel earlier that day. He had been with that human girl. The memory of them together irked her.

The annoying part was the pretentious look of innocence on the girl’s face. Lady Rosetta had had to pretend to be nice in front of the alpha. She didn’t want to be the first suspect when the human girl suddenly goes missing or dies.
