Cara closed her eyes and braced herself for her doon at the hands of the man she loved. At the last moment, she pulled the remaining syringe from her pocket and held it in front of her. There was no way this could work, right? He was too strong, too violent. Too close.  But then, she felt his body collapse on top of hers. First he thrashed violently, but then his muscles slowly began to relax. She lay there for a minute gasping for air, afraid to move lest she awake a rabid beast again. Why wasn’t he moving?
