Chapter 1 Memories of My Past
A thunderclap rattled the windows of an old, abandoned house in lower Japan. Inside the house were cobwebs, dust, rats, and spiders. It was old and run-down, with mold growing in some mildewed rooms. A young man rested on dusty blankets that reeked of dirt, blood, and mud. He was weak from not being able to find any food.
The young man dreamt of a memory he thought he had left behind, laced with a sweet smell of licorice and apple pie. Yet the smell was tainted with the stench of mold and blood, darkness laced with death. He wanted so desperately to see the two people he loved most. However, he was plagued by the deadly aftermath. He saw flowers of pure white dancing in the hot summer wind as a ruffle of laundry whipped loudly in his ears.
His indigo eyes caught a glimpse of light Jade green, the eyes he adored and worshiped. He smelled the sweet aroma of daisies and freshly baked cake. The scent of his mother, Hina Gastra, was breathtaking, like a swan landing on a crystal-clear lake. Her hair was light blue, with dark-colored skin tanned from years in the sun. Her clothes were tight-fitting cloth made into a dress woven by her hands.
He ran to the smell to see her eyes gleaming through the gentle rays of the morning sun. His father, Damian Gastra, had gone to town to gather some firewood to make a small fire for dinner. They grew up in poverty and had little to survive on. Seeing as their home was in Arabia, they had to survive on what they could find. Mostly that would be animals they caught in homemade traps.
"Akito, my sweet baby boy, are you happy to see your dad return today?" His mother chirped as he gazed towards town with his dark blue hair blowing in the hot wind of the desert. "He should be returning now, so why don't we wait inside the house?"
He nodded and followed his mother inside to gaze at the horrid house's interior. It was a small house with no wood flooring, just dirt. The ceiling was made of rotting wood, and the walls were clay. The house only had two rooms: a kitchen and a bedroom. Akito had to sleep with his parents, which was sometimes good. He, however, felt extreme sorrow since his eyes were completely different from his parents'.
Both of his parents had emerald green eyes, while he had indigo-colored eyes. Akito was sitting on the ground with his bare feet scraping the cold, hard dirt on his floor. A noise was heard after a few seconds of his mother cleaning a pot for their rabbit stew. He looked towards the door and saw his father's dirty face through his mask.
Akito stood up and ran towards his father, hugging him tightly; Damien smiled and hugged his son back. His mother walked over to see his dad's eyes gazing into hers, smirking slightly.
"Say, Akito, you're sixteen now." His father said, full of happiness as he looked down at his son's eyes. "How about we do something fun today?"
"Sure, Papa!' he exclaimed as he ran towards the door. "I'm excited!"
Akito ran outside with his hair tied in a loose ponytail bound by a string he made with an old cloth. His dad had dark blue hair, just like his son's; his skin was also dark tan, and his clothes were dusty from traveling in the desert. Damien watched his son laugh as he ran fast around the plants that coat the place.
The two boys went to the oasis and got some water in some urns to take back home. Akito spotted a flicker of something metal and saw it was gold. He grabbed the metal to show to his dad. It was a peaceful memory that Akito wanted to remain in. Soon, a dark cloud formed, causing angry faces to flash and growl like thunder.
He shot awake in his rundown house to see that he was alone. His parents were nowhere to be seen. Akito was stolen and placed in Japan to rid his homeland of his "curse." He gazed down at his torn clothes and dirty feet with grief.
"I'm sorry, mother and father; I know none of this is your fault. If anything, it is mine; I left everyone behind to be trapped in another country." Akito thought as he looked out the window, depressed. "I will get my revenge. Soon, Mom and Dad, I will return to free you all."
He got up and walked outside once the rain stopped to take his shirt off to clean in the lake. He only had the clothes he was brought in. All his other clothes were back in Arabia, where he was banished. Akito walked towards town with his tan skin showing and his matted blue locks covering his indigo eyes. Many people gawked or stared at him with anger. He was a stranger in an unfamiliar place, so naturally, they'd stare that way.
He found a place to sit and began to rest under a tree when a police officer walked over to him. He was resting well until the cop tapped his shoulder with his baton. Akito gazed toward the person in a blue uniform with a shaking body. He rose to leave.
"I get it, officer," Akito spoke hoarsely, his mouth dry from the lack of drinkable water. "I will be on my way. Sorry to disturb you."
"Say, boy, where is your family?" The cop asked as Akito stopped dead in his tracks, feeling tears creep into his eyes. "You must have parents since you are young to be alone."
"They aren't from here, sir." He replied, full of sadness as he clenched his fists. My parents are in another country. I was sent away for a dumb reason."
Akito began to walk away, only to be stopped by the cop. He turned to see him cuff his wrists, only to be thrown in the police car. Akito struggled as he was taken to the cop's house, greeted by a super attractive young lady and an older woman. The officer grabbed Akito and placed him in a chair as he uncuffed the young man.
"Honey, why did you have to cuff the poor dear?" The older woman asked, dripping in sweetness as she got some water for the boy. "He is skin and bones. The poor child hasn't eaten in God knows how long."
Akito took the water, drinking it down fast; he hadn't had anything since he arrived because it was hard to locate. He was weak from dehydration and malnourishment. He was hungry but ignored the constant pains he felt to avoid drawing more problems.
"Thanks for the water, ma'am, but I will go now," Akito said as he stood up, walking towards the door. "I must be on my way now."
"Oh, please stay for dinner." The woman said as Akito froze. "You must be famished for not eating. It won't be a problem at all."
He nodded and sat back in the chair as the cop went to the kitchen with his wife. Akito was very uncomfortable about the situation he was in. If only he had kept his mouth shut. Nothing would have been done, and he'd still be at the tree. He soon felt hands on his shoulder and saw the young lady gazing at him.
"Why don't you bathe while I clean your clothes?" The lady said calmly as the man gazed awkwardly. "It will be fine; I promise I can replace your clothes."
He nodded softly before being led to the bathroom to clean his skin. After a few minutes, he was cleaned, and his hair was drenched. It smelt better than reeking of sweat and dirt. His skin was dark as his father's, but Akito was ashamed of his eyes.
He saw a hairbrush and decided to brush his hair to get the tangles out. It had pretty bad tangles, but it was painful to get them out. His head was sore after a few hard brushings. Within those moments, his hair was normal again, but Akito wanted to leave.
He walked out in a white T-shirt and black buttoned pants. His feet were bare with his hands as he walked down to see the cop's wife gazing at him in awe. He was looking at her shyly as his hands held onto the railing. Soon he was led to the dining table, where he ate with the cop's family.
A few hours passed, and he had eaten so much food that Akito felt sick. After a few more minutes, he got up and went to the door. His eyes remained covered by his hair. The cop gazed at him, and he watched as Akito left towards the streets, walking down them at night. It was going to be a long night for him.
