ON a Saturday afternoon after coming back home from school, Emon was having his mid-day meal along with Mrs Barua. Mrs Barua gave Emon some fried lettuce leaves and said: “These lettuce leaves are from the lettuce patch you sowed in the backyard.”
“Who plucked them?” Emon asked.
“Zibon.”
“Are they good?”
“Eat and see.”
Emon ate a few fried lettuce leaves, and said: “They are good.”
“Hoo,” Mrs Barua said.
Later, Mrs Barua said: “Emon, a fair’s going on in the riverside maidan. Tomorrow morning, I and Puja will go along with Mrs Choudhuri and Rupa to the fair, will you come with us?”
“I’ll go,” Emon said.
“Then be ready before we go tomorrow morning,” Mrs Barua said.
