Leah ignored his command and placed her hands on her hips. "Well, I invited myself into this conversation.”.
Rafael let out a humourless chuckle. “What gives you the right qualifications to enter this conversation?”.
Leah felt a bit angry by his tone: “I donated a lot of blood just to save your life. I believe I do have a reason to be involved in this conversation.”.
Rafael was taken aback by the sudden revelation, “You are the blood donor?”.
"Yeah, I am; why else would I be here?” Leah crossed her arms and said, “I almost fainted when I donated blood to you, and is this how you repay me for wanting to waste all of my hard efforts?".
He immediately misunderstood her words; she wanted something in return for saving his life. Of course, what else could he have expected?
"Fine, you want repayment. Bella, pass me my chequebook." He humbly ordered.
Isabella was taken aback; she didn't expect her brother to always carry a chequebook. Just to confirm, she moved to where his suit jacket was placed, and she brought out a leather book.
"Wow, brother, do you actually carry this all around?” She didn't think she would actually find it in his pocket.
Leah felt her patience run thin when she saw him grab the book, sign his name on it, tear it, and hand it to her.
“Since you want money so badly, write as many zeros as you want." His voice was laced with disgust.
Leah frowned at the insults; he didn't even look at her while handing the check to her. Who did he think he was? She saved his life, and the first thing he does is throw money at her. She roughly grabbed the paper and pen from his hand.
Rafael felt his expectations of Leah go down as he watched her write on the check. He didn't understand how his sister blindly became friends with a greedy woman like her. “Now get out.”
But Leah took him by surprise when he took the check, tore it into pieces, and threw it at his face.
At the disrespectful gesture, the temperature of the entire room became very cold. Isabella shivered in fear. Why did it feel like the wind of Antarctica blew into the room? The air around her brother was so cold.
The look Rafael gave Leah was so bone-chilling that even Isabella took a step back. “You must have a lot of courage to do that." His voice was so thick with anger.
But Leah ignored the warning bells in her head and the obvious red flags that waved in the air.“You're a crazy woman." His voice died at the next change in events.
Leah had grabbed her purse, opened it, and then threw hundreds, not thousands, of bills at him. The bright colour and the amount she threw made it look like the room was raining with money confetti.
The bills rained on Rafeal, and it made him look like a common male escort.
“I don't need your money, you pretentious bastard." Leah snarled at him before storming out of the hospital room.
Isabella stood frozen. On the one hand, she was extremely satisfied with what had happened; no one has ever done something like that to her brother, and she did it without flinching.
But her excitement died down when she realised how much trouble Leah would be in. She snuck a glance at her brother's expression; instead of sheer hatred, his expression was just blank.
Rafeal sat on his hospital bed, completely baffled by what just happened. He kept staring at the bills on the bed and on the floor.
He frowned; it was clear she didn't want his money. How foolish of him to think she did—a well-dressed woman like her—but throwing money at him was something she didn't expect.
He actually found it amusing, and it made him see Leah as an interesting woman. The edge of his lips pulled into a smirk.
Isabella was surprised to see her brother enjoying it. “That daring woman, what was her name again?” He questioned the nervous Isabella.
He already knew who she was, but he wanted to tease and scare her for handcuffing him. Seriously, what type of little sister does that?
Isabella gulped at his dark expression; she knew that looked too good. "Brother, she is my closest friend; don't hurt her; she has already experienced too many problems.” She walked to him, placing her hands on his; it was her way of pleading with him.
“You have plenty of other friends,” Rafeal coldly answered, not showing any remorse.
“This is different; myself and Leah have known each other since we were little. Remember that girl that used to run in our house? That was Leah.” Isabella was frustrated at his lack of sympathy.
“Remember how she used to cling to you? She was the one that always brought you tea, even though her hands would be scaled by it because she didn't know how to hold the cup well.” Isabella rambled on.
‘The one that brought me tea, Rafael did remember an adorable little girl who would always run after him, even when he told her to go away. And then, when he went abroad, she was suddenly gone.
Rafael's expression darkened when he remembered that when he got back and asked about her, his parents told him she was now attached to another boy who was none other than Tristan.
“Where does she live?” Rafael's question startled Isabella, who immediately shook her head.
"No, brother, please have mercy on her; don't do anything rash.” It had taken three years to get Leah back on her feet; if she experienced another breakdown, she wasn't sure she could handle it.
Because she was standing too close to him, he was able to take out the hairpin in her hair and release his hands from the cuffs. It all happened so fast that Isabella couldn't quickly react.
"Hey, you can't do that." Isabella scowled, hating herself for wearing her hair in a bun today. If it weren't for the pins, he wouldn't have been able to escape the handcuffs.
“I can do whatever I want,” Rafeal replied.
He took out the IV drip on his coat and prepared to leave.
“You can't leave yet,” Isabella huffed, but she knew she couldn't stop him even if she wanted to. "Really, you can't,” she whined, grabbing his arm and tugging at him.
“Don't try to stop me; I've rested long enough." Rafeal gently brushed her hands off and walked out of the door. His men, guarding the door, wordlessly followed him.
Isabella scowled and followed him into the elevator. Parked in front of the hospital was a polished black Maybach that was waiting for them. Right behind it was Isabella's personal car.
“Drive her back to the main mansion; she needs to clear her head,” Rafeal directed her driver before climbing into his own car.
Isabella’s mouth fell to the floor. She couldn't believe he would send her to the main mansion; she was going to be scolded by her parents for allowing him to leave the hospital.
The driver opened the door for her; she got to the car while fuming and causing her brother harm. She pulled out her phone and called Leah to warn her in advance about her brother.
“Leah, you have to watch out; don't leave your house for at least a week. My brother has left the hospital; I know he will make his move soon." Isabella wailled into the phone.
Leah raised an eyebrow. She was surprised by how concerned Isabella was. “Why should I have to hide from him?” Leah asked. She was just stepping into her apartment and unconsciously locking the door.
"Well, when he left, he seemed abnormally calm, but that phrase ‘the calm before the storm’ totally suits my brother; the more calm he is, the more frightening he can get. What if he tries to make his move? I can't fend him off,” Isabella whined in frustration.
“Well, I hope you let him know I won't go down without a fight," Leah replied.
Isabella nearly swooned at her words, That's my girl," didn't give him your address, but i'm sure he has probably tracked you down by now..
“Don't worry, I will be fine. What's the worst he can do?” she joked.
She and Isabella spoke for a while before Leah said she had to get something to eat and ended the call. She went on with her day and went to bed as usual; little did she know a surprise would be dropped at her door steps tomorrow morning.
