Steph plopped down on a chair as soon as we entered the kitchen. “Oh man, I’m too tired to even care about getting ready now.”
“Better liven up than because you know my mom will be in here any minute to get us going. She’s very bossy today.”
“She just wants it to be perfect for you guys. Helping you both be prepared for your new powers and possibly finding your mates.” Steph waggled her eyebrows at me.
I scoffed, “ oh I don’t care about that. What are the odds my mate will be in this pack anyway. The last few people have found their mates while away on pack business.”
“This is true but you never know.” Steph shrugged her shoulders.
“Ok girls let’s get your nails painted and hair done. Everything is set up in the living room.” My mom shushed us with her hands to get going. I’m surprised she didn’t swat at us to be honest.
The living room had a table set up with nail polish and a small light with a lady patiently waiting at it. Across from that table was a salon chair with a rolling cart of everything you could need for a updo. My mom really was going all out. “You’re my only girl Eva. I just want to make this day special for you. You’re never going to forget it.” My mom pushed me towards the nail station. “Now get going.” With that I sat at the table and let the lady get to work on my nails while Steph got her hair done.
It took us 2 hours to get both our hair and nails finished. My nails are a royal blue with a silver line swirling through. Steph wanted pink nails with a orange tip. They were very vibrant and so her. “I’m really loving these nails. Your mom needs to spoil you more often so I can come over and reap the reward too.” I laugh at Steph but she knows I hate being fussed over. This is a rare thing I’m accepting because it’ll make my mother happy.
“Your hair looks amazing. It suits you well.” Steph’s hair is all curled with what looks like a flower pinned to the right side of her head. It definitely looks like it would take longer than an hour to do.
“Thanks!” Steph did a little hair flip. “You look like a Viking princess. It works for you!”
My hair is both curled and braided. It’s twisted into a ponytail. I actually really like it. Usually I leave my hair down and straighten it sometimes or it’s in a ponytail. I’m not a girly girl. “Ok I’m dressed it’s your turn. We need to get back downstairs before your mom flips out.” She’s not wrong so I grab my dress and head to my bathroom.
I brush my teeth quick before stepping into the red dress. I look pretty in it. I can honestly say I don’t recognize myself right now. I’m considering putting on some eyeliner and mascara when there’s a knock on the door. “Are you ready to go yet Eva?” Brian asked.
“Yeah I’m ready.” I yell and open the door. Brian is wearing a blue dress shirt and black tie with black dress pants. He looks vastly different in this from his usual jeans, t shirts and boots. “You look nice Brian! You should dress up more often.” I can’t say it with a straight face. I’ve never been good at keeping my emotions off my face.
“Shut up! You look as comfortable as I feel. Mom is lucky we’d do anything for her.”
“Yep! I don’t know why this has to be a formal event. I understand it’s big but why can’t we be comfortable.”
“You and me both. Hurry up and get your shoes on. Mom, dad and Dev are waiting on the porch.”
I hurry over to my closet and grab a pair of black flats. These will be easy to slip off when I have to go into the water. Slipping them on my feet I grab Steph’s hand and head down the stairs.
“Oh sweetheart you look beautiful!” My mom grabs my face and gives me a kiss on the cheek. She’s always been affectionate with all of us. I don’t know where I got my non affectionate feelings from.
“Alright let’s get going. No matter what happens tonight I’m proud of you two. Your good kids and will make use of whatever the goddess has planned for you.” My dad pats us both on the shoulders.
We all pile into my parents Escalade. The third row gives plenty of room for us all to go together.
The lake is on the outskirts of the pack land. We have to go through the forest to get there. My dad parks the car in the lot to the trail leading the way. The entrance has an archway over it with flowers and lights indicating tonight is special. The walk to the lake is only five minutes and I kind of wish it was longer. I wasn’t feeling nervous before but the closer we’ve gotten to the lake the more pressure I’ve been feeling building. “Do you feel that too?” Brian asks.
“The building pressure the closer we get?” I ask to make sure.
“Yeah that’s what I’m feeling too.”
“It’s normal I promise you.” My mom says behind us. “The goddess is just here waiting for you both.”
The trail ends and opens up to a huge clearing, there’s chairs on both sides of a walkway leading to another arch before the lake. The entire pack is seated and waiting. Brian and I wait at the back while Steph, Devon and my parents take their seats.
I look at Brian and take a deep breath before we start walking towards Wesley and alpha David.
