“Great Moon Goddess, the creator of all things that howl at the moon, I invite you to this gathering,” Thee Bone Keeper has switched to English now. She scoops water from the little pool in front of the pile of bones in what looks suspiciously like a bowl made with a human skull cut in half.
She brings the bowl to us, and Alpha Curran bows his head to her. She pours the water on his head and turns towards me. I'm obviously expected to do the same, so I bow my head forward and suppress a shiver as the cool water pours through my hair down to my scalp.
Immediately, goosebumps rise on my body, and I could swear that the clearing suddenly becomes filled with energy bigger than anything I’ve ever felt before.
The Bone Keeper returns to the pool. She drops the skull bone and picks up a silver rope and approaches us. Her eyes are eerie and they creep me out. I wonder how she sees through them, but then again, she probably sees well enough because it feels like she’s staring daggers at me.
“Face each other,” she commands and we turn to each other.
Alpha Curran’s face is so schooled in its reaction that I have no idea what he’s thinking. Why is he choosing to get married to me? Mina's story sounds great and all, but I know how to spot bullshit, and it was so full of it.
“Bring your hands together,” The Bone Keeper commands, and I bring my hands up. Alpha Curran holds them in his.
The Bone Keeper loops the rope around us.
“Repeat after me, both of you.”
“I...”
“I, Violet Harpsichord...”
“I, Curran Sharpblade...”
“Come before the moon goddess in holy matrimony. She makes us and may break us, and we shall always know that she knows best. I promise to cherish you, to care for you, and to perform my duty as your moon blessed mate. May the moon be kind to us; may the moon shine its luminescence upon any darkness that may come between this union. Bless us Goddess. Shine your light.”
Immediately we finish repeating the words, I gasp and feel my body snap straighter. Curran’s hands tightened, and even without being able to see him, I knew he was feeling the same thing I was feeling.
It felt like molten lava was pouring through my body, and my nerves snapped into overdrive. It was a similar feeling like when he had left them mark on my wrist but dialed to a hundred.
It ends as fast as if started, and then everything is back to normal, and I look at the Bone Keeper to find a slight smile on her face.
“The Moon blesses this union,”
I turn in time to see Alpha Curran’s face and his expression confuses me. He looks relieved, but at the same time, he looks sad. Now, what is that about. But before I can say anything, Mira appears and pulls me away.
The walk is quick and it takes about ten minutes, but my mind is stuck on Alpha Curran’s face. Should I even still be thinking about him like that? I’m his mate now, right?
I am jerked out of my thought as Mina pulls us in front of a large cabin. A man comes out of it and walks towards me.
“Be good,” Mina says and then she leaves.
The man pulls me into the cabin gently, and I have no time to appreciate the living and dining area before I’m pulled into a room with a large bed. The man pulls me to the bed and then I feel something cold close around my left wrist.
“Hey, what the f**k?” But he has already left and I’m chained to a big ass bed because I’m air headed. Way to go, Violet.
And then Curran enters. He sees my face, and he must read all the fear and anger and terror on it because he comes close to me and sits.
“I'm sorry. I will explain everything. But first are you afraid of me? I don’t want that.”
