CHAPTER 5.2

667 Words
Curran’s POV I am a bastard, and some part of me knows that the moon will make me pay for it. I watch Violet’s face as she thinks about what I’ve told her. It's not the entire truth. Far from it. I have not told her that I suspect that she is the last surviving Emberveil wolf. I do not tell her that I’ve spent the past three years searching for her mother but almost fell to my knees in thanks to the moon goddess when I found her instead. No. I do not tell her that, because I don’t think she can handle it right now. “I think I get the gist, but why am I chained to the bed? You still have not answered that.” “I wanted yo to get used to the idea of being in chains. The full moon is in three days. I'm going to change here. Look to your right.” She looks down and her eyes widen. “What are those?” “Those are the chains that will lock me down. The shadow beast is a mindless beast that will s*******r everything in its path. The chain keeps me from destroying my pack. You're tied close to me because it does not react to normal humans. The idea is that your presence will calm me enough for me to not go berserk.” “And how sure are you that I won’t be turned into human hamburger?” I raise a brow at her. “Human hamburger?” “Yeah. You flatten me and eat me up.” She shudders. “Very unpleasant thought.” I stifle a snicker and turn to her. “It has been confirmed. The shadow beast only wants wolves as its prey. You'll be fine.” I realize I sound haughty. “And if you feel threatened, you have the key. You can release yourself and escape.” We stare at each other. Violent with distrust and suspicion in her eyes, and me trying to keep my expression as neutral as I can get it. I really want this to work. If Violet is what I suspect her to be, then she’s the key to my salvation. I need her. “Okay. Fine. I'll stay. Besides, I wasn’t expecting you to give me a choice. I thought I was chained to the bed so that it would be hard for me to escape as you tried to r**e me.” The growl escapes me before I can swallow it. Violet's eyes widen. “I will never hurt you or harm you in anyway. And especially not in that way. Do you understand?” “Yes Alpha. Sorry, yes Curran.” The way my name rolls off her tongue hardens my c**k so suddenly that I become stiff in an effort you hide my hard-on. I feel the pull of the moon on that park of darkness inside me. I am going to shift soon, and I need to know that she’s with me entirely. “You’re doing this with me?” I ask. I need to hear it again. “Yes,” The moment the word leaves her mouth, a rush of electricity passes through me suddenly that I grit my teeth. I hear a gasp escapes Violet, and I’m suddenly sure that she just felt the same thing I did. She grabs her wrist and watches it with wide eyes as the ring of red from where I had held her earlier burns red for a few moments before it goes quiet. “What the f**k was that? Did you feel that?” “No, I didn’t,” I say, lying through my teeth. “You may sleep here tonight. Please free yourself. I’ll see you tomorrow.” I turn around and walk out of the room. And somewhere inside my cold dead heart, a place that has been silent for all my life, I feel a single agonizing knock.
