Chapter 3: A different body

1148 Words
Rose watched the sun set for the first time in a different house and in a different body. Yes, her body feels different now after the transfiguration. That’s the word she used, transfiguration. Stefan said it was called the turning. The experience as she now recalls it felt more like transfiguration than it was a turning. She recalled how her bones broke into new shapes and fur growing out of every part of her body. Every part of the experience was just painful. And that’s one thing she never thought was possible: for you to remember an experience so vividly that you remembered the pain with it. Rose also remembered Stefan. He was indeed following her. He rushed to her the moment she fell from the eighties designed scooter and had asked if she was okay. But of course at that moment she wasn’t okay, she wasn’t even herself anymore. She was turning, no, transfiguring. Rose removed her dress and stood in front of the human size mirror by her bed. Naked, she looked at her own body. Trying to get used to it. Her hourglass shaped body looked the same. It was the same body Mark Klint had called the weapon of men’s destruction two years ago after a night stand. It was the same body she woke up with a week ago - even a day ago. But it doesn’t feel the same anymore. It felt stronger, it felt doubled. She feels twice as strong now. Like when she had almost whimpered when Isaac had grabbed her chin earlier. She had never felt fear that deep. But it doesn’t feel the same anymore. She now feels her wolf in her like the conscience of a first time shooter - it cannot be suppressed. It speaks to her, maybe not in the human way but it sure speaks. If not, she was sure she’d not have eaten that deer meat earlier. She’d have called it a pass but she couldn’t, could she? Not when her inner wolf wanted it. Her mind was still in a wonder when her door opened. She turned in fear and wanted to reach for her clothes or anything but unfortunately she had removed them too far away. Isaac, seeing she was naked, closed the door behind him. His eyes were stuck at her. But she knew it was her breast he was looking at, he stared at them like a kid would stare at candy, or ice-cream. He took his step slowly towards her and she took two steps backward and then couldn’t take any more. She was pinned to the wall. He was now a hand stretched away from her. She swallowed for she was intimidated. There is something about him that just intimidated her but she couldn’t just point to it. She swallowed again but there was nothing to swallow this time. He definitely wanted to touch her, she concludes but she doesn’t even have the strength to fight him away should he try. He lifts his hands up and she gets herself ready for him to touch her face or anywhere whatsoever. “Get dressed” he said with her gown in his hands. He must have reached for it and she didn’t know. How could she? She was too busy thinking about him touching her. “You need to meet the Elders of the Pack” She nodded and he turned and left the room. She sighed and bent a little the moment he shut the door. It was as if her breathing had ceased for a while when he was in there with her. … Rose got into the dress, opened her door and there he was walking out of his own room. “Stefan” she called his name. He turned with a little surprise on his face. “You got the name right finally” “Well, in my defense Stephen is a more fancier name” she answered him. “The same way being a vegetarian Luna is fancier?” he said to her with a smirk on. Rose rolled her eyes as she didn’t get a comeback just in time to reply to him. “I see you are ready for the meeting” He said, breaking the silence Rose had started. Rose shrugged, “I don’t know. I don’t even know what the meeting is all about or destiny has brought me here.” “Well, the moon goddess knows. Or not, but that’s what mother used to say to Isaac and I when we were younger. That the Moon goddess knows it all. Rose rolled her eyes but from her mind. She hasn’t been the type that believed much in destiny or a god. But well, she didn’t believe she was a werewolf three days ago, now did she? “You may be right” She said, “but then what is this meeting about again?” she asked. He didn’t tell you?” Stefan sounded surprised. “No” Rose said as she took a step closer with so much curiosity, “ he didn’t” “It’s the…” “Elders meeting” Isaac appeared behind her. She jerked, “Christ!” she shouted with her hands by her chest. “It’s the elders meeting” Isaac said again closing the distance between her so she could feel his breath, “you’d not say a thing, you’d not even blink too much, you’d just stay there and smile while I do the talking” Isaac didn’t wait for her to even nod before he left. Rose watched him leave and she hated him for it. She still wondered why she couldn’t stand up to him, why she couldn’t say it to his face how much she hated him. Why does he have to be rude? She thought. “I know what you are thinking?” Stefan said with a smile, “why does he have to be so rude?” “Mind reading is also one of the powers of a werewolf?” she asked but he laughed, perhaps thinking she meant it as a joke. “I wish” he answered. Rose's heart stabilized and the intimidation was over. It was filled up with comfort and ease. That is the only feeling she feels around Stefan and somehow her inner wolf does too. Perhaps because he has been the only in the house telling her all she needs to know. “Well” she said then sighed- sighing out all the toxicity Isaac brought into her while he was standing there. “I don’t know why he acts like that around me” “He takes time to get along with people,” Stefan said. He stretched his hands towards the direction of the stairs and then asked her in a British accent “shall we? My lady”
