Chapter 2: A different home

1360 Words
Rose woke up with a headache that seemed to know its way around her head but it was nothing compared to the pain she felt in her joints. She struggled to help herself to sit but then, where was she? She wondered. It was neither Maplewoods nor was it her studio apartment. And Her clothes! Even those had been changed, she recalled wearing nothing but a tanktop and a bum shot then a jacket that she doubts if she ever buttoned but now she was in a sleeping gown, the type you’d find a ghost wear in a cheesy hollywood horror blockbuster - it was loose and transparent enough to assume she was naked. “Where am I?” she whispered, saving the stress of wondering who must have changed her clothes till later. Somehow she couldn’t recall anything past falling off her eighties scooter, at least nothing concrete. Involuntarily she found herself tracing where she had bashed her head, thanks to the mirror by the bed. There was neither a cut nor a trace of blood. Amnesia, she concluded, I must have hit my head so hard I forgot everything that happened next. But at the same time, is that how it works? She queried herself, am I not meant to forget what had happened before the fall and not the other way round? Running, she remembered running on four legs. Now that could have been a dream, she concluded. Maybe I was kidnapped? She also thought, but by who? With that thought the door of the room opened. “Stephen?” She sounded weak, too weak to be the normal Rose. He smiled as he grabbed a chair and sat beside her, “Stefan” he corrected her again. “Where am I?” she asked but this time she was beginning to recover her vocal strength so well Stefan could sense anger in it, or maybe it was suspicion. “Welcome to the house of the Ramsons” he said with a welcoming smile. “I can’t remember coming here, I can’t remember anything after…,” Rose said, rubbing her head where she had fallen. “You are safe now don’t you worry” Stefan said, “and you did better than even true breeds” he added. “Yesterday,” she said, then paused as her mind brought back scraps of memories of the night, “yesterday, my eyes” she continued with her hands by her eyes. She turned to the mirror by the bed and her eyes weren’t blue as she had remembered but back to being gray. “Yesterday my eyes were blue and my heart” she said as she touched her heart to make sure they weren’t broken. “It’s normal for it to feel strange at first but don’t you worry you’d get used to it.” he said, “I was there to make sure you didn’t do anything too bad” He was? She wondered, “I was in my apartment” “Well, I knew it’d happened so I was close by” he said, “I couldn’t stop you before you started the scooter and left so I followed you instead.” he explained. Now she’s sure he was the one who changed her from her bum shorts and tank top. “Well, welcome to the house of Ramsons” he said, breaking the silence. House of Ramson? Who is Ramson? She turned and rested her legs on the wooden floor, tried to get up but her body dragged her back. “You should still rest some more and get tended to. They’d get you something, that’d help you get back your strength in no time ” Stefan said his hands by her ankle trying to help her get balance Rose rubbed her forehead gently for the dizziness hadn’t gone totally, “I just want to go home” she managed to speak. Stefan sighed. He didn’t know where to start from and worse he knows how stubborn Rose could be but he said it anyway, “This is home now, Rose” Rose raised her head and her face was scary enough for him to know it’d be another string of arguments with her, “is this a kidnap?” “No!” Stefan said, his forehead wrinkled. “Of course not” “You put something in the drink or the food last time, didn’t you?” Stefan rolled his eyes in the most for-god-sake manner, “you saw with your own eyes what happened yesterday, didn’t you? At least some of it” He wasn’t lying about that, she did see strange things. Somehow she now even recalled howling and running in four legs, she doesn’t even know how she did that but she did remember that. It’d have made more sense if she was drunk? But she didn’t remember drinking that night, her birthdays are usually the same. Sit at home, do nothing, catch up on series, paint whatever comes to mind when you have the strength to. “Rose, you just have to just trust me. You are not the same anymore, and I know this so much to take in but you have got to trust me” he said and got to his feet. “You will be treated with the epitome of respect in this place, you are not just anybody but the future Luna to our Alpha.” “Luna?” “Yes, its your destiny” he added. The maidservants walked in suspiciously immediately he finished speaking- like he had told them it was the signal to come inside. “They will take care of you and give you everything you need” Stefan said and after that she didn’t see him for another three hours … Rose was led down the stairs to the dinning. They had dressed her in a different gown, something more exotic and pleasing to the eye. Something she could wear to a date. Stefan was sitting there already and this time he was sitting with someone different. He looked like Stefan, only more mature. His eyes were ocean green and not blue like Stefan. His hair was more styled than that of Stefan but other than that they actually had a lot of resemblance. She cleared her throat and dragged the chair she had been directed to. “Is this her? '' The other person said. His voice was baritone deep, uncompassionate like Stefan. “Yes,” Stefan replied in a respectful way. The other guy got up and walked behind her, his hands ran through Rose's hair and then grabbed her by the chin. His face closed up to her and she could have guessed he wanted to kiss her right away. “She’s more human than us” he said and pushed her head back. Rose could have spoken, warned him, maybe splash the water in her cup at him but she was too scared, there was something about him that intimidated her in a way she had never felt before. He grumbled and left the dinning. “Who is he?” Rose asked Stefan. “That’s the Alpha, my brother, your fated mate” Rose's eyes widened. That animal, she thought. “Are you kidding me?” Stefan smiled a little, “don’t worry. He could be like that sometimes, but hey he’d come around.” he added. Rose didn’t believe him but what else could she do. “Eat” Stefan said, munching into his plate. Rose looked at her plate and it was just meat, “You know I am a vegetarian” Stefan raised his head slowly and burst into laughter. “A wolf who is a vegetarian” He said, “you might be the first in a thousand years.” Now she felt like splashing that water at his face instead, “Well, I was normal until you came” she said. He nodded, “fine. But hey, try it and tell me what you think” She picked up the silverwares, took a bite and didn’t stop until it was finished.
