Chapter 23 It was after two in the morning and Chris lay in James’s bed, watching him sleep. A flash of lightning illuminated the room, briefly exposing the cut on James’s arm and a deeper slice across his chest. How he got the wounds was as much of a mystery as whatever he and Captain Sorensen had discussed behind the closed guest bedroom door. Thunder rumbled overhead. Between the storm and the events of the night, Chris knew he wasn’t going to be able to sleep. He left the bed, grabbed his phone from the nightstand, and then went down a short hallway to the living room.
