“Care to explain what was that back there, Lilian? Didn’t take you for the kind that did charity.” Donovan said once they were inside.
“Oh Donovan, I think you meant to say ‘thank you for saving my mate, Lilian’. Well, you’re welcome!”
“Don’t play fool with me.”
“I am not. Aubrey here is a witch and although I know the mating bond will eventually be way too strong for her to resist, she’s rightfully part of my coven as well. So excuse me if I think I want her to learn from her powers before being your s*x toy.”
“Excuse me?” Aubrey spoke quietly but it was loud enough for them to hear her, “could you please not talk about me like I’m not here?”
“You’re right, darling. Where are my manners? I’ll introduce myself first: I’m Lilian Device, Priestess of the Witch Coven from the Foresta District. I’m sure you have a lot of questions that we will gladly answer but I think we should leave Vampire domains first. Let’s go to my coven, we’ll be better off there.”
“Lilian, it would be a pleasure to escort you back to your coven.” Donovan said elegantly.
“Oh I’m sure you would, Donovan.” she said with a smile “I’m no one to intervene between two mates. I’ll allow it. It will give you a chance for you to know each other better.” A car pulled on the entrance and the chauffeur got out of the car, opening the door waiting for Lilian. “I’ll go in my car and you can follow behind. Aubrey can ride with you if she’s comfortable with that.” All eyes were now staring at Aubrey. She looked around wondering how good of an idea was to be in a car with three strangers, but considering her options, there was not much difference.
“I’ll go with Donovan,” she said slowly. Donovan punched the air triumphantly, regaining his composure almost instantly, and gave a signal for his Gamma to pick up the car.
“Very well, then I’ll see you back at the coven.” Lilian walked to her car and gave a small wave as the car started moving. Shortly after, a black Land Rover arrived being driven to Donovan’s Gamma.
“My lady,” Donovan gestured while opening the passenger door and extending his hand for Aubrey to take. She grabbed his hand, sending sparkles throughout her body as she stepped in. Closing the door, he jogged to the other side of the car and got inside. His Beta was already in the copilot seat.
Once everyone was settled, the ride began. Donovan looked excitedly at his new mate without being certain of what to tell her. He has been dreaming so long for this moment that he was completely lost right now.
“Uhm… I just noticed that we hadn’t properly introduced ourselves”, Aubrey said sheepishly.
“Oh, that’s right! My apologies! My name is Donovan Saunders, Alpha of the Foresta Werewolf Pack and Main Ruler of the Foresta District. The one driving is Gamma Troy and that one over there is Beta Alex. I trust them with my life.” They both nodded as a greeting without leaving their eyes from the road.
“Nice to meet you all,” Aubrey answered with a small nod.
“Now, if you don’t mind, guys. Please give us some privacy.” instantly she saw a black division going up and leaving Alex and Troy out of sight. Donovan looked back at Aubrey and grabbed both her hands in his. Trying to focus on what he was going to say and not on how beautiful she is. “I know she means a lot to you, that girl Babydoll…”
“Summer.”
“Excuse me?”
“Her real name is Summer, Mas- Elias has this tendency of putting nicknames to all her female slaves.”
“That is… quite disturbing. Ok, well, Summer. I know she means a lot to you, I’ll do my best to get her out of there. One way or another.”
“Oh my! You would!? Thank you so much, Donovan!” She said enthusiastically while hugging him. The physical reaction of that hug was immediate. She was meaning for a short hug but her body didn’t let her move away. Donovan took this as a signal and hugged her back, wrapping his arms around her waist. In a swift motion he put her over his lap and inhaled deeply her scent from the crook of her neck.
“Aubrey, you smell amazing” he said lustfully. Aubrey pushed him far enough to see his eyes. His beautiful eyes.
“What is happening?” she said mesmerized by his sole existence. Their faces merely inches away from each other.
“The mate bond, darling.”
“But… but I’m not a werewolf. How can this feel so strong?”
“You’re a witch, that just got free from her chains. It’s like a whole new world for your senses.” Aubrey nodded in understanding. She was too scared to move. She wasn’t sure what she was scared of. Of getting closer? Of pulling away? Slowly, she regained her composure and took her seat, leaving a very disappointed Donovan.
“I… I just met you. All this is going way too fast. An hour ago I was chained thinking that I was fated to die a human slave and suddenly not only I discovered I’m not a human, but I’m also an alpha’s mate. I appreciate you freeing me but I don’t know what I got myself into. This scares me a lot.”
“Are you scared of what’s happening or are you scared of the fact that this feels so natural?” Donovan asked after studying her face for a while. Aubrey looked at him shocked. That feeling she had of safety around him, she already felt so comfortable with him without knowing him and yes, that scared her.
“Both. I understand how this bond works, but basically it means that I’m physically attracted to you… that doesn’t mean this is safe or… what?” she stopped talking when she noticed Donovan’s smirk and arched eyebrow.
“So you’re physically attracted…”
“What? Yes I mean… but is the bond!” she said, feeling her face turning red.
“Spiritually.”
“Excuse me?”
“The mate bond, more than a physical bond, is a spiritual one. We were destined to be together. And, after the ritual, our souls will be intertwined for life.”
“Oh...But how does it work? Are we compatible by default? We’re not going to fight about anything then? Are you going to love my morning breath and I will love you no matter how grumpy you get?” Aubrey started blurting all these questions without really filtering anything, Donovan just laughed soundly at how adorable she looked.
“I’ll tell you a little secret, Aubrey: I’m new at having a mate too. What do you say we take it one step at a time and discover it all together?”
She nodded in understanding, “Yes. I would love that.”
