Prologue
*Alice POV*
Wolves are marvelous, majestic creatures. They are one of the most beautiful animals to walk this earth. However, they are also strong. They are fierce. They are not to be messed with. They encapsulate everything you should strive to become. They embody everything YOU should become.
I lived by this theory my entire life. Whether it was solemn or violent.
If you want to name your child after these beautiful animals, hoping they will become equally as beautiful and fierce, then here's a sharp realization. Not every child is born remarkably.
Not every child deserves to carry the nobility and power associated with the moon-dipped names we are blessed with as children of the pack.
I wouldn't be trapped here in a dirty cell beneath my once proud courtroom if we were.
Hair grimed and covered in charred pieces of wood and burnt grass. I should have left when the first warnings rang through the halls. How foolish I was to stay, yet I couldn't find myself regretting my decision. As long as Girtha was safe that is all I could care for.
I wonder if Any of the pack leaders would come for me. Yet I couldn't deny the lingering question, Why would they come back for me?
I heard clanking against the metal bars separating me from the guards and the guards from me.
One rather bland man stood before me. He must admire his wolf as he stayed between his forms.
Tall dark ears flicked above his brown hair and tail hanging low behind him. "You look scrappy when you disgrace your wolf with such childish appearances" I spat at him.
With a quick whip of his wrists, he tossed the browned rice and stale bread with such force is draped itself over me.
"Kill him" a coarse voice echoed through my mind.
i rattled, who was this? I scanned the room around me, nothing but cracked cement and dusted webs.
"Alice, listen to me" I heard her again.
"Who are you?" I whispered, not wanting to draw the attention of the guard who was already agitated.
"I am YOU" it bellowed back.
Suddenly I felt my back start to stiffen, my spine started to crack as I felt agonizing pain.
"what is this" I choked out.
Suddenly I felt as if my entire body was burning like hell within my veins.
Then...I blacked out.
Hours.. maybe days? I'm not sure how long I was out but when I awoke the once-chained corridors around me were destroyed.
What happened? I thought as I looked at the blood bath before me.
There were several guards now, or... were. There was blood stained over the walls, and handprints that show scraping and clawing to get away from whatever massacred these men.
Then there was his body, the guard who'd thrown my meal on me when I spat insults at his wolf.
he was fully shifted before he was ripped limb from limb it seems. His head separated from his body with his eyes open as if he was soaked in fear when he was mutilated.
I squatted downward to get a closer look as nausea waved itself over me. The smell of blood was so putrid and fresh that I felt like I walked into a living nightmare.
Yet I couldn't stop myself, as if something had come over me, I had to grab his head.
As I wrapped my hands on each side of his skull I put my forehead to his while I spoke as if something had taken over my body.
"Ut ego iram in inferno conbures"
