Adeline jumped at the sound of the loud thud that filled the room, sitting up and looking around. At first, she didn’t notice anything strange and the sound didn’t repeat so she thought that maybe she dreamt of it.
Then it happened again.
Her eyes snapped to the window finding it slightly ajar with the wind from outside making it slam shut and reopen. She returned her attention to the room, only to realize all the candles were out. Panic settled into her chest and she tried to get up to light them when a hand wrapped around her waist, pulling her back down.
