God's Favourite Child - The Destined One

Today marked the first day in his new job. He was going to work as a computer clerk alongside a team of 10 other members. Rohit Malhotra did not look forward to this day. The reason being that this job was not as per this educational qualification but rather something that was assigned to him when he became a part of witness protection program. Don't think anything bad. The reason Rohit's in witness protection is because he gave incriminating statement against the crime syndicate boss's son who murdered a heavily pregnant woman. His one decision not only caused his regular life to be on hold but also put the life of his family in danger. He spent months in his job without budging and worked relentlessly. As time flew by some of his old pudgy co-workers got replaced with new, young blood. A teacher who is on roll because of his popularity and good looks now worked as a lowly clerk whose job is to input data from physical file into the computer system. The job not only bored him to the core but he also looked for ways to find enjoyment by doing odd jobs for co-workers earning small income, betting on little things like whether his boss would wear clothes of certain color or how he and his co-workers would prank other co-workers. But he was good with the work he did. He would sit for two-three hours and finish the work meant for the entire day and the rest of the time he would goof off in the office in search for some fun and frolic. His current team included the following: 1) Melanie Smith: More can be said about her beauty and less about her brains. She is the target of the entire team. Everyone tries to woo her to get in her good books. But her eyes are only on Rohit. 2) Ramesh Malhotra: He is Rohit's elder brother. He is the only one who isn't affected by Melanie's charm. Reason: Simple. He's a widower with a child and has no time for love games and is on a lookout for a person who can not only love him but also love and accept his daughter Gina. He has earned the nickname "Brains of the team" 3) Tina Malhotra: She is Rohit and Ramesh's younger sister. Her only outlook in life is that what she says is right. Being the youngest she was spoiled to the core with no one opposing anything she says or does. The nickname which everyone has behind her back is "Vain woman". She is in a relationship with Andrew Mason. 4 & 5) Jay and Joy Isaac. They are identical twins with one being having a small black mole on his nose bridge while the other has a thin scar on his forehead which is hidden with his hair. He got this scar when he tried to climb the glass shelf when his parents were away and fell with a glass cutting him in the face. The babysitter got fired and he ended with stitches on his face. Due to the scar on his face which makes him look like part of a gang, Joy has a hard time finding friends to talk to let alone a girlfriend. Jay on the other hand has a gala time with friends and girlfriend Jo Ruth. The nickname the brothers have is "Handymen of the team" because they are responsible for doing all the small works for the team from changing printer ink/paper to running errands for other team members. 6) Jo Ruth: The only female who doesn't like to involve herself more than necessary. When other co-workers think that spending more time with office workers is beneficial, Jo thinks it is pointless to butter up to people who would trample on you once they are in fire. She is Jay's girlfriend. 7) James Johnson: Funny man of the team and an efficient co-worker. Secretly in love with Melanie and would do anything to gain her attention. Once Melanie said that she is allergic to dog fur so James being a typical macho man shaved the office dog's fur just to appease her. PETA group did take action against him by fining him. But as they say a dog's tail will never be straight. No matter how many times he gets scolded, beaten, reprimanded he remains unchanged. Once a co-worker fell into a pond and came to the office drenched. Melanie was offended by the smell coming off that co-worker and complained. Can anyone imagine what James did? He poured a bucket of cold water on that co-worker when he was cleaning himself up. But question arises why does he still have the job after all the trouble he causes. Simple. He is the nephew of the company owner. 8) Gary Taylor: The nickname given to him is "Old man". Reason being that he is the most conservative person of the team. He is of the thought that girls should not wear dresses that expose their skin, premarital s*x is a sin, any form of skinship with the opposite s*x is an attempt for seduction and anyone who has indulged in is a morally characterless person with no proper paternal guidance. Any woman who was in a relationship with a guy without marriage is a loose charactered slut who has no control over her carnal desires while any man who was in a relationship with a girl without marriage is a manwhore who cannot keep his pants on and can never be in a faithful relationship ever. Any person who was in a relationship with a person of the same gender were an abomination. His age old beliefs not only kept the girls away, he was even the ideal candidate for celibacy. 9) The ninth team member is yet to arrive and today would be the first day meeting the team. When everyone is waiting with anticipation, one girl whose body wasn't exposed in any way entered the office holding a file and a tote bag. She didn't raise her eyes to look at anyone. Everyone had one thought: Here comes another member of church who has come here to collect funds. This girl made her way to the receptionist's desk and she was guided to the HR staff. On her way to the manager's room she bumped against a sturdy chest. On looking up she discovered the set of eyes which soothed her aching heart. She didn't know why but when she looked at the person in front of her only one thought flashed in her mind. He would be the person she would be spending her life with. Making love to him, carrying his children, spending her joys and pains with him, sharing his burden ensuring to give him the love he deserves. This is none other than Rohit Malhotra. Nina soon apologized and continued her way to the manager's room. The manager soon made his way out with the lady in question and introduced her as the new joinee of the team. He told her that she would be learning her work from Rohit and he would be mentoring her. Nina felt that God heard her prayers and teamed her with the person who captured her heart. On the other hand, Rohit who had been trying his luck to woo Melanie was shocked as he wanted to use his free time to be near Melanie. He went to speak with Sam, the manager as to change Nina's mentor. Sam wouldn't listen to any of the reasons Rohit put forward. Reason: This was the order from witness protection that he should not be allowed to indulge with a relationship with anyone. He was aware of the feelings Rohit and Melanie had towards each other and had to nip it in the bud. Soon, three months have passed since the fateful encounter between Nina and the other team members. She soon earned a nickname is "Nerd". Typical girl who hid behind clothes that covered her entire body and did not have courage to look at a person's face while talking to them. She has the habit of stuttering when spoken to and does not spend time with other co-workers. When she is in the office she is only glued to her system typing out her work. Workwise she is better than Rohit as she can complete a day's work in an hour and when she's done she asks her manager for more work. Typical workaholic with no life outside work. During office outings she is the only one who is missing. Reason: She does not drink alcohol and does not talk about boyfriends or anything ostentatious about relationships. She is revered by Gary as the perfect person who he works with but isn't popular with others. She is often asked to complete other people's work so that they would have free time. When working she would secretly glance towards Rohit when he wasn't looking, or bring him a coffee when he is tired after a day's work or bring a sandwich on her way to work so Rohit didn't have to be hungry while waiting for the office canteen to open. When Rohit is not in office and before others arrive, Nina sits on Rohit's chair imagining him in place. She touches the things he uses and opens his deodorant bottle just for a whiff of the scent on his body. Some would say it is a creepy stalkerish behavior. But Nina never saw it that way. She could not openly pursue her feelings because of one fear. Should she get to the stage of marrying Rohit, he would no longer love her and would leave her. All in all its a typical office setting with a mix of various personalities who all fit into the setting. Chapter 1 ends here.
