Genesis’ P.O.V Flashback- 5 years ago It was around 3 am when I heard my phone ringing. I picked it up. My expression morphed into a confused one when I saw the caller ID. It was Xavier, I was quite confused as he never called this late. It had to be something extremely important. I ignored the dreadful feeling in my heart and the different scenarios going through my head and picked up the phone. “Is everything okay?“, I inquired. “Meet me at the park near your house, be quick”, he demanded and hung up. I quickly wore a hoodie as it was cold outside. I collected my car keys and exited my house. I arrived at the park and saw Xavier waiting for me. “It better be something important enough to ruin my beauty sleep for”, I stopped when I saw the troubled look Xavier wore on his face. “What’s wrong?“, I asked “Genesis, I’m sorry I should’ve told this to you long ago but I have to leave.“, he spoke in such a regretful tone that I almost felt like it was okay for him to leave like this. “When will you return?” He gave me a sad smile and replied, “I’m not sure but I promise you that we’ll meet again one day.” “Why do you have to leave in the first place?” “Genesis, I’m sorry but I can’t tell you the reason”. I couldn’t help but let out a humorless laugh. I couldn’t believe my ears. The only person whom I thought truly cared for me was leaving me without an explanation. I put on my fakest smile and replied,” It’s okay, just promise me you’ll return one day.” “I promise.” I had mastered my fake smile, right down to the wrinkles around my eyes. No one ever questioned me except one person, Xavier Dwight. This made it 10 times harder. It was like he could look right through my facade. Thankfully, he didn’t mention anything. “I’ll miss you Gen”, with that he wrapped his arms around me. “I’ll miss you too, don’t you dare break your promise”, my voice was barely above a whisper but he understood. I lay in bed all night, tossing and turning. I couldn’t sleep, not a bit. What he did didn’t hurt, I could forgive almost anything. What hurt is the fact that he failed to trust me.
