ARRIVAL(BEGINNING OF A NEW PHASE)
ACT ONE SCENE 1
ARRIVAL
(University of Abuja, precisely the female hostel block. The air is mixed with excitement, sweat and shouting parents as freshers resume and oldies resurface).
(Zara,17, stands with her mum. Her face depicts indifference but her eyes say otherwise).
MUM: Dear you will be fine. I know you don't really say much but you are strong.
ZARA: Strong doesn't always mean ready mom... But thanks for the encouraging words, I must say.
MUM: (Smiles, hugs her) You are more ready than you think. I trust you will meet people that will actually enjoy your silence.
ZARA: (half smiling, screaming sarcasm) I doubt that. Most people fear what they can't read or Predict.
MUM: (Sarcastically but hilariously) Poetess, the ones meant to understand you will read every line.
(Zara does not reply as her mum hugs her tightly and whispers - ... Easy with poetry baby, try socializing instead? Something in her tightens up. As her mum walks away, something dawns on her. Its not sadness . . . Its . . . reality)
ZARA: (Soliloquizing) Now its just me, two suitcases and the beginning of a so-called new life in a place filled with noise I didn't ask for. Nice!!
(Zara doesn't like changes. So, when her mum hugged her and left, She knew Change had already begun).
DISTANT VOICES: Bye.... convo day... humms...
(Sighs)
(CURTAIN FALLS)
