Running from yesterday

Sunday, October - Present day "We did it" Maliene said to me as we finally got the last box unloaded from the van. This was the 3rd house we've moved to in 2 years. “Yeah good thing we dont have a lot to unload.” Not only is she my sister, but she is also my best friend. We tell each other almost everything. There was one occasion Meliene found 2 tickets to a rock concert she is obsessed with in the trash at school. She knew she wouldn't be allowed to go, but she couldn't resist the temptation. Meliene decided to take the tickets and put them in her bookbag. But here's the interesting part: Meliene couldn't keep this to herself. she told me she was going to sneak out to go with a friend. I was surprised but promised to keep it between us, only if she kept her location on. when the day of the concert finally came, she told our parents that shes spending the night at a friend's house. we exchanged glances before she left as I gave her that 'be careful" look. That was about 4 months before we moved here. fortunately, our parents never found out. we respect each other's privacy. we both made a mutual agreement that we wouldn't share each other's information with our parents except for what they are allowed to know. If one of us is going through a tough time, feeling stressed out, or something, the other can let the parents know so they will be aware of the situation. As I'm bringing the last box over to the yard I hear my mother. "Maria! Can you please keep Alyssa away from the snowglobes, she's going to end up breaking-" Shatters My mom rushes over to Alyssa. She's only 3, so I can't hold things like breaking a snowglob against her. Of course like any toddler she's going to get into stuff, make a mess, or break something. As is expected. While my mom cleans up the glass from the concrete, I take Alyssa into the house. On our way inside I pick up one of her boxes that go in her room. I open the door, set the box down on the fl,oor and look back at Alyssa taking a seat on her naked bed. “How do you like your room, Alyssa?” In response to my question, she folds her arms across her chest and grunts. “What?” I ask her confused. She says “It's boring.” so I open the box that I set on the floor in hopes there is something to entertain her with. I pull out a stuffed animal. “What dat?” Alyssa asks me. It's a little bunny. His ears are long and druppy. His fur is soft and grey. I hold him up to her. “His name is Nymus, he was my best friend when I was around your age.” She grabs him from my hand, takes a good look at him, and hugs him tightly. Reminds me of when I first got Nymus, he got me through a lot of s**t.
