11 Three years seemed to zoom by rather quickly. They were wonderful years but basically uneventful until the spring of the third year. The English Department Head, my former senior English teacher, decided to retire at the end of the year. I applied for and was awarded the position of Head of the English Department. Next, we needed to deal with the filling of the vacant position. The Principal, the retiring head, and I formed a committee of three, in case the decision came to a vote, and we advertised the vacancy.
