The telephone rang while we were having dinner that evening. Mom was expecting a call, so she answered it. “John, it’s a Sergeant Stumpel for you.”
“Hello, Sergeant.”
“Hello, John. I caught Gustav at the bakery around five this afternoon, before he went home for the day. I did not tell him much, only that some citizens have located a bit of information on his sister’s disappearance. He will be in my office at eight o’clock this evening. I hope you can make it. I called Rod, but there was no answer. I did not phone Abie as she came with Rod earlier.”
