Otto Obagato was hailed as Nigeria’s greatest basketball star. He was six feet, eight inches tall and built like a football player. Even though the Nigerian basketball team was not competitive in the IAAF World Championships, the professional scouts were greatly impressed with Otto’s potential. A number of teams were interested in signing him. In his third season in the NBA, he and an opponent were involved in a devastating collision. Otto suffered major injuries to his right knee. His season was over. He attempted a comeback the next season, but the knee would not hold up under the rigors of competition in the world’s premier league. His playing career was cut short.
