Avyana Celestine Adelinda POV
“Celestine, where are you going?” Mom asked.
I didn’t mind her. I want to play with them, I want to play with the other kids. “You are not allowed to go anywhere, you brat, come back here,” Mom said but I continued running towards the gate of our house.
As a five-year-old girl, I would like to play with other kids and great grandmother told me that I can do everything that I want as long as it makes me happy. I would be happy to play with those kids but Mom was stopping me. I don’t care, I will follow great grandmother instead of her.
“I’m sorry, Mom. I want to do what makes me happy,” I said.
I ran again.
I saw some kids who have the same age as me and they were playing in my neighbor's backyard. There were two boys and three girls.
A smile was formed on my lips.
“I can’t wait to befriend them,” I said and I ran towards the gate of neighbor.
“And what about your wings? Avyana Celestine Adelinda!” Mom shouted but I didn’t mind her.
I know that she cannot chase me because I am faster than her. I can fly but she can’t even do that because she turns into a serpent. It would be impossible to catch me. I know what my Mother’s weakness is, she cannot do anything about it.
I went towards them while they were busy laughing. They didn’t even notice that I came closer to them.
I clenched my fist as I felt nervous, I want a friend too!
‘Do what you think will make you happy but don’t do something that would give misfortune,’ great-grandmother said.
I could still remember it.
“Hi!” I said, almost shouting so that they could hear me but they didn’t look at me, as if I am a speck of dust that is not worthy of their time and attention.
“Hi!” I shouted just to make sure that they could hear me.
They all looked at me and their smile instantly faded. They stared at me as if I am someone who did something hideous.
“Why are you here in our place? Who invited you?” the boy asked.
I looked at his eyes. He has green eyes with long hair and skin as white as a snow.
I want to know what’s in his mind so I stared at him intently. Luckily, I could hear it and see the memories and thoughts in his mind.
‘Don’t ever talk to the daughter of our neighbor, she will bring bad luck to us, do you understand that?’ the woman on his memories said. I guess it was his mother.
‘Yes mom,’ he said and he nodded his head.
I blinked my eyes twice and I looked at his neck.
“Where are you staring at huh?” he asked.
“Nothing, I didn’t do anything wrong at you,” I said and he shook his head.
“Don’t come here again, you will just bring bad luck to my family and I cannot let that happen,” he said.
He suddenly pushed me backward that made me fell to the ground. I felt so hurt inside because of his memories and the fact that he doesn’t want to befriend me.
“Look at your wings, they are so black. That will just bring bad luck to us,” he said and he looked at my wings.
My wings are big, that covering them with a big cloak is useless. I’ve tried it myself but it didn’t work. I don’t have any choice but to always wear my long black dress.
“Yes, Brandon, you’re right about that. She doesn’t deserve to be our friend,” a girl said.
She has long blonde hair and was wearing a gray dress.
“You’re right, Elsa,” Brandon said.
“Leave or else we will punish you for entering our place!” he shouted in my ears that gave me so much shock.
Tears started to pour out of my eyes and I immediately ran out of his place.
I ran and ran until I reach the forest. I still kept on running. I don’t care how far I was from our village. As long as I am away from them, I guess I’ll be fine. I realized I don’t want a friend anymore.
“I don’t want anyone even a friend, I don’t need them,” I said as I wiped the tears out of my cheeks. “I’m not a bad luck, I was just born like this. Is it my fault? No, it’s not!” I said and I cried again.
I sat on the grassy ground with these dark trees around me.
“Stop crying, they don’t deserve your tears. Don’t waste your tears to people who gave you sadness and pain,” a voice of man said.
He sat beside me. He has black hair, his skin was so pale and his wearing a black shirt and jeans.
“Wipe your tears if you don’t want me to kill those kids,” he said.
I wiped my tears. I couldn’t feel any fear because of him. He was making me feel comfortable and I am liking it. He makes me feel better as well.
“Who are you?” I asked but he didn’t say anything.
Instead, he stared at my eyes.
“I am someone that you don’t want to know,” he said.
I was so confused by what he said. I would love to know more about him but I don’t think he will say anything about himself.
“There are things that you shouldn’t know because those things are only for adults,” he said in a calm voice.
“I can read your mind, so don’t say anything bad about me inside your mind because that will only hurt me,” he added.
I nodded my head.
“Okay, I got it,” I said. “Why are they bullying me? I don’t understand why.”
I felt so sad while thinking about those words that they said to me. I decided to slap my left cheek. However, I still couldn’t forget it.
He shrugged his shoulders.
“Because you are beautiful, that’s why they hate you. Being beautiful is being unique,” he said.
“Really?” I asked and he nodded his head.
“Of course, tell me what you want me to do to those kids,” he said.
“What will you do to them?” I asked.
He pointed my forehead with his index finger.
“Too many questions, just tell me,” he said.
I took a deep breath, trying to control myself because I felt like I was going to cry again.
I looked at the sun as it demarcating on the horizon.
“I don’t want you to do anything from them,” I said with a smile on my face.
“Why?” he asked.
“Because they are my friends.”
‘I’ll kill them myself,’ I said in my mind.
