Chapter 3 Hidden truth As an intelligent and smart King he was, he began to think deeply when suddenly a thought hit him. The only way he would be drunk or feeling dizzy after just two glasses of the red wine was if they have drugged him through his wine. And yes that was it, he said to himself in confirmation. But…. Who would have dared to drug him and why? He asked himself trying to steady himself not to black out. I hope King Rufus is not about to act harshly. I wouldn't forgive him, he said and black out almost immediately. The next morning, King Nicholas woke up and his head was aching badly. He couldn't remember anything from last night. He quietly stood up, he went close to the window and sighted a beautiful garden and was pleased with the sighted before him, he immediately decided to savour the beautiful view before him, he left the chambers where he spent the night and found himself moving to the beautiful garden. He stood there admiring the beautiful sight before him. He immediately thought about his wife and he missed her already and urgently thought of leaving immediately to go and be with her. His thoughts flashed back to the all that happened last night. He couldn't place why anyone would have dared to drug wine. He shoved it out immediately and decided to leave the kingdom at once. I would sought this out later, King Nicholas whispered to himself. As he was about to leave the garden to greet bid King Rufus good-bye, he was suddenly greeted with a smiling Maria. She was kind of happy, an usual happy from her normal self. She was smiling from ear to ear. My King, she greeted King Nicholas with a smile while bowing slightly. King Nicholas find the greeting a little strange and just nodded with a cold face. He found Maria very annoying especially after the stunt she pulled off at his chambers not minding the presence or absence of his wife, Queen Esther. He resent her with everything in him. King Nicholas walked pass Maria, and never looked back. He cared less about how she felt. But he couldn't stopped wondering why exactly she was smiling about. He found Maria’s unusual smiling self very strange. Since he had come to knew her, she was a never happy lady. She was always nagging or cursing everyone around her, but she was grinning and giggling like a child. He found her attitude very strange and unbelievable. Something is damn off, I can feel it, he said to himself quietly. Definitely, I have to leave first, I just don't feel well. I hope I‘ve not messed up, he said to himself in frustration as he rubbed his temple. He went straight to King Rufus throne and announced his departure and left for his kingdom. King Nicholas never disclosed the incident that happened during his visit to the Kingdom of East Anglia. He buried it in the deepest part of his heart. He was afraid that his wife might felt betrayed if she found out about the incident. Two weeks later, King Nicholas who was seated on his throne as he mentally cursed himself as his wife Queen Esther sat at his right side apologize for trying to stop him from attending the bouquet at the East Anglia two weeks ago. My King, I'm so sorry for being so pessimistic, I should be more optimistic in the future , she said apologetically. I'm so sorry my King. I need to train my mind more, to always see good at all times, she continued sadly still feeling sorry for nearly stopping the King from attending the friendly bouquet. King Nicholas was lost in his reverie. He still feels that something went wrong on the night of that bouquet but he has not find any clue regarding what ever that has happened that night. Little did his Queen knew that she her feeling was true. That something was definitely wrong from that bought. But he refused to say a word to his wife Queen Esther. As long as he has not find a clue that night, he would never disclose it to his wife the Queen. As he was lost in his reverie, the butler came in and bowed slightly, my King, there's a letter from the kingdom of East Anglia for you , my King, the butler said, as the butler’s voice brought him out of his reverie. Open and read it, King Nicholas ordered the butler. Letter of gratitude, the Butler reads out. It was boldly written on the body of the letter. What was King Rufus grateful for? He asked himself still confused on why exactly he would send a letter of gratitude to him, after two weeks of the strange bouquet, so he thought. Continue, he ordered coldly, as he exhale murderous instinct. “ My friend, King Nicholas Kings lll. We appreciate your presence in My kingdom. It was an honor to have you at the bouquet last two weeks. Thank you and we will appreciate your presence again.” Yours friend King Rufus IV. Why exactly did he send you a appreciation after two weeks of the bouquet? Queen Esther asked sarcastically. How would I know? The restored in anger. There's a hidden message to this strange bouquet appreciation. Queen Esther said thoughtfully. Are you sure that nothing happened at the bouquet? Queen Esther asked King Nicholas thoughtfully while observing his facial and body gesture. Nothing happened, King Nicholas answered almost immediately praying silently that his wife wouldn't notice or sense the worry in his tune. I hope I'm wrong this time, Queen Esther said quietly trying to hide the doubt in her voice. She could sense that something is definitely wrong and her husband the King of Wessex Kingdom, King Nicholas Kings lll was not hiding anything from her. She silently hope that her nightmares would not come true. She silently prayed to her gods. She had prayed and cried almost every night praying to her gods that they should grant her the only thing she had ever wanted a “son”, she just need one not many. She was not that greedy. She had pleaded to the gods to take her gifts in exchange for a son. But for four years now, she has waited patiently but nothing was coming forth.
