Chapter Six Diane’s Turn Kevin waited in the parking lot, sitting in his car listening to the radio, while Monica and Diane closed. They talked and giggled in the bright inside of the shop and Kevin wondered if he were the topic of conversation. Occasionally Monica waved through the windows and laughed when Kevin respectfully nodded and returned her wave. Diane wanted him to follow her home after close. What had formerly been requests had transitioned into near commands. She no longer said, “Are you following me home?” Now she stated, “You’re following me home,” to which Kevin always replied, “Yes, Diane.” They left the pizza shop and Diane locked up. She waved and called goodbye to Monica and, with a cursory glance, confirmed what she clearly knew as she got into her car and drove awa
