For a second, the entire room went dead silent.
When those words left her mouth—especially the part about the table—Aldrick’s breath hitched completely. The corporate mask didn't just crack; it shattered. His eyes darkened, a sudden, dangerous heat flaring in them because she had just called his bluff and laid every single one of his unedited, filthy thoughts right out in the open. For a beautiful, breathless moment, he thought he had won.
And then she stepped back. And she said "but."
As Clara walked away to pack her things, turning her back on him, the shock melted into a sharp, disbelieving laugh. Aldrick stayed rooted to the spot for a beat, staring at her retreating back, his heart hammering against his ribs. She had completely rewritten the rules of his game, and now she was trying to walk away.
Not happening.
As she looked down to place her laptop and phone into her bag on the chair, Aldrick started moving. His strides were long, aggressive, and silent as he prowled around the corner of the table. After packing her things, Clara bent forward over the table to reach for the contract. Just as her eyes locked on the paper and her manicured fingers reached out to snatch it from the polished wood, Aldrick slammed both of his hands flat on the polished wood on either side of her, pinning her between his arms and the table. His right hand landed directly over the contract, deliberately keeping her from lifting it.
Pressing his body flush against hers, he trapped her firmly against the edge of the table. He leaned down, his breath hot against the back of her neck, making the small hairs stand up.
"You don't get to drop a bomb like that, dismiss me, and just walk out, sweetheart," Aldrick murmured, his voice dropping all the playful boardroom banter. It was rough, low, and vibrating right against her spine. "You want to talk about honesty? You just admitted exactly what you want. And I am a lot of things, but I am not a businessman who leaves a mutual agreement unfulfilled."
He pressed just a fraction closer, a dangerous, breathless edge to his voice as he looked at the side of her face.
"Look at me."
A slow smirk spread across Clara's face as she felt the rigid heat of him against her back. She knew he was right on the verge of breaking, and a thrilling rush of excitement surged through her, eager to see exactly how far he would go.
Instead of turning around to look at him, she deliberately bent forward over the conference table, bracing her weight against the mahogany as she reached out for the pen that had rolled away when he slammed his hands down. Stretching herself out directly beneath him, she cast a wicked look over her shoulder. "Mutual agreement? You have agreed to sign, Drex, yet you haven't. I admitted what I wanted... so where is my signature?"
When Clara deliberately leaned forward over that table, pressing her weight into the wood and stretching right out in front of him to grab the pen that had rolled away, Aldrick's mind went completely blank. His hands pressed into the table so hard his knuckles turned white. She was playing with fire, and the look over her shoulder with that smirk was the exact moment the matches ignited.
Aldrick let out a low, rough growl, the last shred of his corporate composure entirely evaporating.
He didn't let her straighten back up. Instead, he pressed his weight forward, crowding right over her so she was held flush against the table, completely trapping her. He reached over her with his left hand and grabbed the pen out of her hand.
"You want to talk business, sweetheart? Fine. I'll sign your damn contract. But I'm signing it right here. Right now. While you're bent over this table, exactly the way we both wanted. Do we have a deal, or are you going to keep running your mouth?"
Clara stifled a soft, helpless groan as the crushing weight of his frame covered her back completely, pinning her flush to the mahogany. Fighting the thick haze of arousal settling over her, she placed her hand on the contract.
She wiggled her hips experimentally against him, looking back over her shoulder as she tried to drag the contract out from beneath his heavy palm. With every slight, desperate movement she made, the curve of her ass slid agonizingly against his crotch, sending a jolt of pure heat straight to her core.
When his hand didn't budge, she paused, her breath hitching. "Contract?" she teased, waiting for him to release his grip.
When her hips moved against him like that, sliding right against his crotch, a harsh, ragged breath dragged out of Aldrick's throat. His entire body locked up, the tension inside him snapping tight like a coiled spring. She was absolutely destroying whatever restraint he had left, and she knew exactly what she was doing.
He pinned her even harder against the table with his hips, grounding her in place. "Stop moving," he rasped, his voice dangerously dark and completely breathless, vibrating right against her ear.
Aldrick slowly slid the contract up the wood until it was perfectly positioned right beneath her hands, right where she was bent over. His hand stayed heavy on the very edge of the page, holding it perfectly still for her.
"Right there," he murmured, offering her the pen and rolling his hips against her letting her feel exactly how much her little movement had just affected him. He tilted his head down, his lips brushing the heated skin of her neck, his breath coming fast and shallow. "Sign it, sweetheart. And then we'll see if you're still full of sassy commentary when I take that pen back out of your hand."
A triumphant grin touched Clara's lips as she felt his grip tighten in response to her teasing. Deliberately wiggling against him one more time to push her advantage, she pried the contract out from under his hand with a sharp tug.
"Ah, ah, ah," she murmured, holding the papers just out of his reach. "I'm not signing anything with these clauses crossed out."
With a sudden surge of momentum, Clara pushed back up hard against his chest, grinding her ass right into his rigid crotch before using the leverage to force herself upright.
She began to spin around to face him, a smug victory speech on her lips about other wants not being fulfilled today, but Aldrick didn't let her finish the turn.
As she pivoted, Aldrick caught her by the waist, his fingers digging firmly into the fabric of her skirt. In one swift, territorial movement, he yanked her right back flush against his chest, trapping her spine against him before she could actually escape his reach.
"You think you're so clever," he rasped, his breathing completely wrecked now. The polished, untouchable CEO was entirely gone. He was flushed, his heart was hammering against her shoulder blades, and his eyes were burning as he looked down at the side of her face.
Aldrick snatched the pen and contract right out of her fingers, slammed it back onto the table, and yanked the cap off his pen with his teeth, spitting it onto the wood. Without breaking eye contact with her over her shoulder, he signed his name at the bottom of the page in a fierce, jagged scrawl. He tossed the pen aside; it clattered loudly across the room.
"There," he growled, his voice a dark, breathless command as his hands slid right back down to her hips, anchoring her to him. "The clauses are yours. The contract is done." He leaned down, his lips grazing the column of her neck, his voice dropping to a dangerous, gravelly whisper. "Now... what was that you were saying about other wants not being fulfilled today, sweetheart? Because you're out of excuses, and I am entirely out of patience."
