Chapter 7 The Secret Lover's Claim

I woke up with a start and everything around me seemed to turn in three sixties. I closed my eyes and opened them trying to focus, my head banged.

I looked around but couldn’t remember where I was or how I got there. The last thing I remember was going to the dance floor with Cane, so why was I in bed, with this dull headache that won’t go away?

I suddenly heard someone gasp and rushed to my side “You’re awake” he said then pulled me in his arms and started stroking the back of my head.

I flinched as the swiftness of his action enhanced my headache and I didn’t know who he was so I gathered strength amidst the weakness I felt and pushed him away “Get away from me. You’re not Cane, so who are you and where am I?”

“I am sorry for the way you were brought here, Zera but I had to think of a plan B since our first plan was sabotaged,” he said with a soft expression on his face.

I c****d my head to the side and looked at him. He was tall and handsome but not as handsome as Cane was and somehow he seemed familiar.

“I ask again, mister. Who are you and where am I?” I asked in a shaky voice that was a little bit strengthened by my demands. “The last thing I remembered was being on the dancefloor with Cane so why the hell am I here?”

I saw concern flash through the young man’s face and he took careful steps towards me, and sat down at the edge of the bed, careful not to touch me. I noticed that and thought “Good! Let him keep his distance, I don’t need this drama added to the ones I am dealing with already”

“I heard the rumors but people say it’s another prank to delay the wedding with Cane but looking at you now, I can’t help but wonder, do you really not know who I am, Zera?” He asked carefully with fear of the answer to the question he asked, already paling his handsome face.

I looked at him with impatience and said “If I knew who you were, I would not ask the question twice.” I was trying really hard to not allow my words to depict the irritation I felt. Could he just talk already?

He sighed in obvious frustration and rubbed the back of his neck vigorously before explaining “My name is Tyler, we grew up together and have been lovers for the longest time but your father doesn’t deem me a fit match so you were betrothed to Alpha Cane.”

“When you found out about the wedding, we planned to elope and go very far away from here together and you have tried numerous tricks to halt the wedding and even looked for different ways for us to escape but they just seemed to strengthen the resolve of everyone who wants to see you married to the alpha.

Immediately he finished, it dawned on me that this was the man Cane referred to earlier in the room. The man he thought I or rather Zera planned to die with through the poison.

I looked at the man again, he wasn’t dressed regally, he wore simple clothes but he was handsome with kind eyes unlike someone else I know with cold eyes that could pierce into anybody’s soul.

Zera did good with her choice of a lover but I don’t think the man seated before me could help me get the revenge I want.

I need someone powerful like Cain, so I put on a stoic expression and pretended not to know him, well literally I don’t and Zera did but Zera is gone and no longer in charge.

“If the last plan failed and it’s my wedding day already, then what am I doing here?” I asked with sarcasm dripping heavily from my voice.

“There’s still time Zera, we can go away now and no one will find us. We can still run away together, there is absolutely nothing stopping us now. Even though you are married now it doesn’t matter.” He whispered softly, almost like a caress, and I understood that he loved Zera very much.

“Did you listen to what you said a few minutes ago? Even though I am married now. You want to elope with the wife of the most powerful alpha in the country and you think he won’t come after you? If not for anything but because of his ego that will be bruised.” I tried to reason with him while massaging my temple as I still felt a throbbing headache.

“I don’t care, Zera. I am ready to lay down my life for our love, for a chance to be with you” he replied with fierce determination and I sighed, it was time to resolve this madness. I really can’t deal.

I put on a stoic expression and looked at him quietly for a long time and said “You are lying” and what I said visibly shattered him, I saw him clutch his heart, and I felt sad a little but had to bring back his sanity.

He was willing to lose his life for someone who was dead already.

“Even if all you had explained was true, you have no right drugging and k********g me here. Why would you even do that in the first place?” I got genuinely angry and said, “I demand you take me back this instant.”

I gasped and said “Please don’t tell me you kidn*pped me during the wedding ceremony”

“No,” he said with a sad sigh. “I couldn’t do it during the wedding.”

“It was after the wedding. I heard you say you needed to rest a bit. I grabbed you in the hallway to this quiet room.

“Good! Take me back now” I said and stood up from the bed.

He looked at me sadly for a long time and said “The Zera I know would not speak to me this way. I know the poison you drank must have hurt your head somehow but if you remember anything and want to come back to me, you know where to find me”

“This room might have been uninterrupted for the few hours we have been here but I can’t take you outside. If anyone sees us together then it’s death for you and me as well,” he said regrettably.

I let out an angry hiss and said “Great! Just great! Now I have to find my way back in a place I barely know.”

I walked to the door and made to move past but he held my head and said “I wish you don’t have to suffer all this, Zera. Always remember I love you from the bottom of my heart and I am always here for you.”

I walked outside the door and was faced with numerous doors. The house was grand and had many rooms, where would I start?

I stood indecisive for a few minutes till I heard a panic stricken voice say “Oh goodness! My lady, I have been looking for you, where have you been?”

I sighed as I heard the words and voice of the maid who was in my room earlier. I was so glad to see her.

I decided to take a stroll and got lost wandering the grounds.

I saw her mouth open and her eyes went wide with surprise then she said “Did you really lose your memory, my lady? I thought it was another prank.”

“Well, I would rather not talk about this but while we make our way back to my room, I want you to answer these questions honestly” I beseeched her.

I began to ask her questions about Zera, and what she liked and didn’t like. The relationship between Zera and different people I described to her.

She answered all questions with growing amusement, then I began to ask questions about Zera’s childhood friend Tyler, and their secret love story.

I also asked her about Cane, and by the time she answered most of the questions I had, we had already gotten to the front of my room with my name carved on the mahogany door. I frowned looking at it.

I turned to the maid and said “What’s your name? I didn’t ask your name”

“My name is Rosa, my lady.” the maid replied with amusement.

I laughed and said “I know you think I am fooling around again but oh well!” she started laughing

I opened the door to my room still laughing and the laughter died in my throat and faded from my face because standing in the middle of my room staring at me coldly.

And the next thing he said stopped me cold. “Where the hell have you been for the past few hours, Zera? Who have you been with?”
