Rowena’s Pov
“Are you sure about that? Y…you truly don’t love me anymore, Rowena?” Not getting the reaction he wanted from me, he questioned, his face pale with defeat.
If only today could rewind and begin again, I would pay any amount to skip the part where I meet Sébastien. But one could only wish.
As I stood facing him, my infuriation only rose to the sky, and I badly wanted to spare myself of his sight but not without making him know his place.
It’s been years since I last saw him. For all I knew, I couldn’t trust him to be harmless. I saw it, the look of want he was giving Aiden and Lily, and I needed him to know his wish would never come through.
I was the woman he hurt, and took her love for granted. The woman that stayed with him despite knowing his heart was with another woman. But I should have seen it coming. He rejected me because I was unable to give him a child quickly, shattering my fragile heart into more pieces when he proclaimed Olivia as the only one worthy of being his Luna.
No matter how much I pleaded, it all fell on his deaf ears. He did what he wanted; chasing me out of his life. For all I know, he has no right to be back now. Or want a place in my children’s life, one he never worked for.
“Why would I still love a man who made my life miserable? If there’s anything I feel for you now, it’s hatred. I regret the day I met you, and that the moon goddess ever fated us together,” I spat out immediately. “So if you still want your way back to your pack, I will advise you to leave now before I take the necessary action against you.” I finished coldly, and then I turned around to leave.
But not without taking in the way his face drained with colors, utterly stunned.
I knew what was running through his mind at that moment. He’s never seen me in action before. To him, I was a pathetic powerless toy he once owned and had by his side, but now, I spoke with him with guts he never knew I had. Which came off as a surprise to him.
I fought off a smile from my face as I walked away. Somehow, I couldn’t help but be filled with pride at my own transformation. How I was no longer a pushover, and I could push away the man I once loved wholeheartedly without blinking twice, just because I was now aware of how much better I deserved.
My kids and the guards were already waiting inside the car for me. As I reached it, I was about to open the door and let myself inside, when I heard as Sébastien suddenly began to move towards me.
“I know what I did, and how I deserve no mercy from you but Rowena, I’m not relenting. I will continue to show up before you until you forgive me.” I could swear my breathing almost stopped as he snatched at my forearm, swirling me around.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” I snapped, snatching my hand from his hold. Everything about his touch disgust me and made me want to peel my skin off.
Sébestien scoffed, as if he couldn’t believe the answer to my question wasn't obvious enough. “What am I doing? I’m just trying all I could to reclaim my mate. I know I’ll always have a place in your heart so why don’t you give me a second chance? I promise, I’m going to treat you better this time. Pleas—”
“How?” I interrupted him, giving him one of my own scoff. “How when I already made it without you, huh? You think I still need you? I got to where I am without you in my life, what gives you the impression you could make me better than I already am?” I glared up at him in disbelief, arms crossed over my chest.
Meanwhile I was boiling with rage on the inside.
What does he take me for? A dog he can just toss a bone at and expect me to crawl to him, worshipping the ground he walks on?
“The kids,” He answered, his lips curling mischievously and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t recognize that look in his eyes.
Warning. Threat.
He wanted me to let my guard down and suck up to him and I’m afraid, he got what he wanted.
“What?! What are you trying to say?” I staggered back, fazed and afraid.
He couldn’t be threatening me with them, right?
“I know they need their father. You can’t keep me away from them forever and you know that.
Sooner than later, rumors will get to them and they will find me and come running to me themselves. In the process, they will despise you for keeping me a secret from them. Tell me, is that what you want?” He asked, gaze focused on me. “Are you sure you can take it when they turn their backs on you?” He implored, the desperation in his voice hard to ignore.
It gave way to panic and I could no longer think of a retort. My fingers trembled, anxiety mounting my chest as different thoughts invaded my mind.
I… I couldn’t let him have his way. I needed to think of something quickly before he…
I snapped out of my trance as he closed up the remaining distance between us.
He tried to reach for my hands again, and I don’t know what gave him the impression I would let it happen this time but he got it right.
I didn’t fight back.
My brain fuzzy, and still struggling to process everything he said, it was like I was in a state of helplessness. Where I could do nothing to get rid of his filthy hands that I normally wouldn’t let near me if he hadn’t… placed me on a chokehold.
But then, it dawned on me I didn’t have to give in if I didn’t want to. It’s all in my head, he won’t be able to do anything. Because my children wouldn’t have any reason to pick a father who abandoned them right from pregnancy over me.
No. Hell no.
“You never gave them any reason to seek you out in the first place, Sébastien,” I cut in sharply as I regained my confidence. I looked down at my hands that were in his, my eyes full of disgust and then I swung my hands free from his grip.
“They know their father, the one who brought them up right from the start and gave them a roof on their heads but newsflash, it’s not you,” I snapped my fingers right in front of his face, as though willing him out of his daydream. “Go away now before I call the pack officials on you. You’re a trespasser and being an Alpha doesn’t mean they would go easy on you.” Holding back my spite, I said my last words to him but it still managed to make it out to the surface.
Knowing I had found my way out of his trap, there was a tiny trace of disappointment on his face, but he kept a straight face.
His hands limp by his sides, all he could do was watch me sashayed away, unable to do anything.
My head held high, I managed to reach the car. However, not until the driver pulled out of the school’s gate and onto the road, was I able to let out the sigh I had been holding back.
Damn, what was that back there?
I almost wavered. If I hadn’t found my tongue early, then maybe he would have been able to get into my head. And just like that, he’d be back in my life.
I could only imagine how disappointed Alexander would be when that happens. Because getting back with Sébastien wouldn’t just mean stabbing him in the back, it would also mean destroying the whole purpose of our revenge plan.
“Mom, who was that man?” Aiden chimed from beside his sister, his voice breaking through my thoughts and I straightened up immediately.
When I entered the car and met them asleep beside each other, I was relieved. I had thought maybe by the time they woke up, they would have forgotten our encounter with him but it turned out Aiden’s curiosity couldn’t be stopped.
“He’s a stranger. He thought I resembled someone he knew but he was mistaken. Mommy doesn’t know him at all.” I responded quickly, flashing him a reassuring smile.
I expected him to nod right away and drop the topic but he continued to search my eyes for more explanation. “Why then did he mention something about…”
“Aiden,” I cut in before he could finish, aware of the pain the rest of his sentence could cause me.
“Listen to me, okay? That man is a stranger. Whatever he said was because he thought I resembled his late wife. But then he apologized immediately when he realized he was wrong. So, Aiden, you should take this off your mind too. You hear me?” I told him, my hands outstretched in hope.
When he nodded, taking my hands, I breathed differently. “Yes, Mommy.”
Throughout the rest of the ride, Aiden stayed on my lap. He told me about his experience at his new school and how many friends he made.
Honestly, I was just contemplating on withdrawing them from the school because I couldn’t trust Sébastien to stay away and not to visit the school again after this, but Aiden’s enthusiasm alone made me feel like I made the right decision bringing them there.
When we got home, Aiden and Lily were taken inside but I made one of the men stay back.
“You saw that man from earlier right?”
He nodded, looking concernedly at me. “Yes, Luna. He’s the Blue Moon pack’s Alpha.”
“Keep a close tab on him.” I instructed him before walking off, anger fueling my movement.
