Mirabel's POV
I made sure I woke up early since it was my first day at work. I had better be on my best behavior today if I wanted to stay long at this company.
I quickly got out of bed and went to the kitchen to make some noodles for myself, since that's what was left. I needed to buy groceries that would last me a few months. As I prepared the noodles, I quickly went to the bathroom to bathe. I grabbed a towel, wrapped it around my body, and scattered my clothes everywhere in the room. What should I wear?
I needed to look decent and nice I needed a good outfit.
I kept rifling through the clothes on my bed. "Mhmm, what should I wear? Something simple, right?" I mumbled to myself.
I picked up a peach shirt and black free trousers and put them on, tucking the shirt into the trousers.
I quickly folded the clothes I'd scattered and put them back in my wardrobe, then put on a pair of black high heels.
I rushed straight to the kitchen, took my noodles to the dining table, and settled down to eat.
Then I heard a knock on my door. "Oh no, why now?"
I went to open the door and found George smiling. I rolled my eyes.
"Don't you have manners? I was about to eat," I said, putting on an angry face.
"Then I'll join you," he said, heading straight for the dining table. Huh, what? I couldn't let him eat it if I did, I'd be starving by the time I got back, since I didn't even know if they'd give us time for lunch.
"Hey! Don't you dare!" I shouted, running after him and snatching the food out of his hands.
"Wow, so you won't let me eat?" he said, pretending to be hurt. I had no choice but to go to the kitchen and dish out the last portion that was left, then place it on the table.
"Come and eat it quickly before it gets cold," I said to him as I sat back down to eat mine.
"Don't worry, I was just kidding I've already eaten breakfast," he said.
I only chuckled darkly, trying to suppress the urge to yell at him. Did he think I was joking? I'd already given him the last of my portion and his, and now he says what?
"And did you think I was kidding either? If you don't eat this food, I won't be happy about it going to waste," I said seriously.
He chuckled, seeing how serious I was, and I chuckled too when I saw him eating.
"Good, that serves you right," I said, sitting back down to finish mine.
After we both finished eating, I took the dishes to the sink and washed them. Then I grabbed my black bag, and we both left the house.
George dropped me off at the company and told me to be careful, since I'd told him everything that happened the day of the interview.
As I stepped into the company, I saw the guy I'd bumped into last time talking to a man of authority. Fear gripped my heart as I walked past them, praying he wouldn't see me.
But I wasn't so fortunate. Our eyes met, but I quickly broke eye contact and walked quickly toward my office, unknowingly bumping into someone else.
"Why do I always have to bump into people? Is this company cursed or what?" I mumbled under my breath.
I looked up to see a handsome, tall, slim guy staring at me.
"I'm sorry," I said, about to walk past, but he grabbed my hand. "I guess you're new here, right? My name is Ken. What's yours?" he said.
"Mirabel," I replied shortly, and he flashed me a sweet smile. Wow, he's the friendly type, I guess unlike that rude i***t from yesterday.
Then a thought came to my mind.
"Excuse me, that guy standing over there... who is he?" I asked, pointing toward the guy from yesterday.
"He's the CEO."
"What? The CEO?!" I exclaimed. Oh no, I'm doomed.
"Why are you so surprised? Did you offend him?" he asked, concerned. But I couldn't tell him anything, so I just shook my head, then heaved a sigh of relief.
"Thank goodness he's not someone you should offend. Anyway, we'll see each other later during lunch. I'm guessing you know your way to your department?" he asked. I nodded, and he left, winking at me. I couldn't help but smile. He's really cool.
I went straight to my department. When I got there, I saw two other women. Oh, thank God I wouldn't be bored. I greeted each of them and went straight to my desk to begin my work.
I was fully engrossed in my work when I heard someone speak.
"Aren't you going out for lunch, or do you want to starve yourself?"
I looked up to see it was one of my colleagues.
"By the way, I'm Becky, and she's Queen," she said, pointing to the woman next to her.
I flashed them a sweet smile.
"I'm Mira. Sorry I didn't introduce myself earlier. And by the way, we can go out together, can't we?" I said. They both nodded, giving me a warm smile.
"Of course," Queen said, and we all went out for lunch. On our way, we chatted, getting to know each other better. As we reached the cafeteria, I saw Ken the guy I'd met earlier chatting and laughing with his friends.
When he saw me, he waved for me to come over. We got our food and joined them, and we all ate and chatted together.
At closing time, George called me, saying he was going to pick me up since we both got off work at the same time, 5 p.m.
I sat on the roadside where he could easily see me when he arrived. But it had been about an hour.
Should I call him, or should I just call a cab?
"Oh no. George, where are you?" I said out loud.
Then I heard a deep, cold voice.
"Who are you waiting for at this time of day? It's 7 p.m., you know that, right?"
I shivered when I heard his voice. It was none other than the guy I'd bumped into the one Ken had told me was our boss.
I bowed my head to show respect.
"I'm waiting for my friend, sir," I said respectfully.
I hoped he didn't remember me, but I guess he should, right? The girl who dared to challenge her soon-to-be arrogant CEO.
"Doesn't your friend know what time we close? Why would she keep you waiting so long?" he said, his voice softer this time.
Wait did he just say "she"?
"It's not a she. It's a he. And don't worry, he'll come. He'll be here soon," I said, immediately realizing what I'd just revealed.
Why would this arrogant CEO be worried? Ha! Funny.
"And why would I be worried? And by the way, why 'he'?" he demanded.
It took me by surprise.
Why "he"?
How was I supposed to answer that?
"He's just"
"I don't really care. Just tell him to pick you up on time next time. I hate seeing an employee hanging around the company after closing hours looking homeless," he said coldly, his voice tinged with irritation, and with that he walked away.
I could only scoff. Wow, this man was more arrogant than I thought.
Homeless? Me? Wasn't he indirectly referring to me? Wow, this man was really getting on my nerves.
Just then, George's car arrived. I got in, and he drove away.
