A Father's Rule

1006 Words
The day is approaching, will father finally hand over the thrown or will he deny me again. Why must his rules be so outdated? He demands that I have a wife before he'll hand over the thrown. A knock at my door distracts me from my thoughts. "Zander" they say. I know exactly who is waiting outside my door. Another of my father's ways to force a wife upon me. "GO AWAY!" I shout. "But, I've brought you a lovely gift." Responds Willa "I'm not in the mood, please just leave me alone." "Zander, please let me in you know your father is watching me and if I don't present the gift he'll punish me." Willa says in a whisper. She's right the last girl I pushed away he locked in a cell for a week. Willa and I are best friends not lovers. Plus, I know who she loves so that only makes matters worse. "Fine, come in." I open the door. There she stands in a beautiful emerald dress with a tux in hand. God, she truly is beautiful, but I see her as a sister not a lover. "Wow, you look beautiful Willa." "Thank you, it's for the ball tonight. I knew you'd forget so I figured I'd save us both the trouble and get your tux." "I didn't forget, I'm not going" "Zander, you and I both know that's not an option." She says, as she pushes her way past me. "Well neither of us is going to enjoy this shit." "So, how does Marcus feel about us going to the ball together?" "He's not happy, but he know what the king wants he gets" "I really hate that I've put you in this situation Willa. I'm so sorry for my father's overbearing ass." I watch as she struggles to find a proper way to respond. She acts as if we are being watched. Which it is very possible we are being listened to so I turn on some music so she can speak freely. "Thank you. Your father knows our history why can't he see that we are more brother and sister. Your my best friend and I don't want to lose that. This truly hurts, I want Marcus. Everyday we see less of each other because of your father's demands." "Willa, after the ball I will go out and find love for myself. I will tell my father. I refuse to put you through this pain any longer." A loud knock interrupts us. It must be father, and he expecting us to be dresses and ready for the ball. I hate going to his parties for all the women to throw themselves at me just for a chance to be at my side on the thrown. At this rate I'll never sit on the thrown. "Zander, get open this door. We needed to have a discussion." I open the door, and his eyes go straight to Willa. He looks to me and smiles ear to ear. Look at him so delighted to have such control over our lives. "Willa, will you please give Zander and I some privacy?" "Yes sir, of course." She knods and leaves. Now theres no buffer between the two of us, and normally that means he wants to know why his demands for me to marry aren't met. I wish he would just leave my love life alone. I will find love when the universe is ready for me to meet my soulmate. "So, son when are you planning to propose to Willa?" "Well Dad it's only been two weeks, and niether of us is at that point yet." "Zander, you must have a wife before you can take the thrown. You must have a wife that can produce an heir." "I know father but I do not want to spend my life with a woman I am not in love with. Willa is my best friend I could possibly love her, but two weeks is not long enough to know." "Oh Zander why do you always have to make things so difficult. Just marry the girl and you will both learn to love one another." "No father I will not force marriage upon anyone especially if I expect them to love me one day." "We will talk more of this later son. We have a ball to attend in 45 minutes." "Yes father." After he leaves I get dressed and call Willa back in to help me with my plans to leave. I pack a bag and figure out where I'll begin my serach. Maybe I'll head to forest and travel from there. "Earth to Zander!" I snap out of it. "Sorry, just trying to figure out where to go from here." "Well, you have to leave through forbidden forest to get anyway without your fathers guards stoping you. Which then you will be in danger of the witches." Right there is that, the war between vampires and witches have been ongoing for centuries. It began with my fathers father, when he started a war with the Queen after murdering her daughter. Because she refused to marry him, and hand over her powers to meet his demands and desires. Since that day no which has trusted a vampire due to the fear of being killed or controlled. I still believe there is more to the story, but since the Queen killed him the minute she felt what had happened to her daughter no one knows. I believe that the combination of our powers could change the world there will never be an opportunity for that thanks to my grandfather's actions. "Well we better head down, we have only 15 minutes." Willa grabs her sash and we head downstairs. I can not wait for this parade to end, I can not stand what I am putting Willa through. She deserves so much better and Marcus has already promised her the world. After tonight she will be free of me and my fathers high demands of her.
