Jinx

Three more weeks and my mother will no longer have any control over me. Well only if I'm gifted with grandmother's powers. With my current luck, I'll never have anything. The only thing my mother got right was my name, Jinx. Or she may have cursed me forever.
"JINX!!! WHERE ARE YOU!?!" Shouts Mave.
"Where I always am Mave. Come on in."
She busts through the door, and runs to hug me. "Oh Jinx, how I've missed you. I have so much to tell you!"
"Well, spill. I've missed you too. Mother has been more unbearable without you here."
"Oh Jinx, the quest to find my magic was so amazing! Kam taught me so many amazing spells, and wish it could have lasted longer. My magic element is fire, Jinx I'm a fire witch just like your mom. All the studying we do wasn't anything compared to what Kam and I did out there. I wish you could have been there with us"
"Well, only three more weeks and well hopefully I gain my grandmother's powers."
"You will Jinx, don't worry. Now we need to hurry up and get ready for the winter solstice dinner."
"Oh right, Mommy dearest big dinner. Do we really have to go Mave?"
"Yes Jinx, I want to gain my markings. We've been waiting forever for this."
"Okay fine, but only for you. Don't expect me to speak one nice word to my mother."
"I know Jinx, thank you! I love you so much!"
"I love you too, Mave."
We get ready and Mave looks stunning in her purple lace dress. I'm not to sure about wearing a dress especially this emerald green. But what Mave wants she gets and she wanted my dress to go with my hair and skin. Emerald does really go with my fire red hair, but the best part is how this lacie dress is going to upset my mother. I can hear her now. "Oh Jinx, I'm not sure about this new look. It doesn't really represent your best self." Oh how she gets under my skin, I think it's because I look so much like her mother, and she despises me for it. The icing on the cake is that I'm supposed to be the choosen one to enheirit her powers.
"Jinx, are you ready yet?!?" Mave shouts from the other side of the door.
"Yes, coming out now. Don't you dear laugh if you do I'm not going."
"I won't I promise, now hurry up!"
I step out into the main room and Mave's mouth just drops open.
"I knew it it's terrible I'm changing."
"No Jinx, you look amazing. I knew emerald was your color. Just look at yourself in the mirror."
I step infront of the mirror. Wow I do look hot, mom is going to hate this one. Honestly if I were looking for love I'll find it in this dress for sure. But I only want to find true love I want someone to love me for me. Not because of a dress that shows off my assests. Mave is right though I have to catch their attention somehow.
"Okay, I look good. You were right mave."
"Oh my god, Jinx did you just tell me I was right? Can I get that in writing?"
"Sorry, no time we'll be late. Come on lets go and get this over with."
We leave hand and hand towards the main hall. The nerves well up god I'm not ready for this. We step through the doors and all eyes turn to us and the room goes silent then the whispers begin. Mother's eyes burn into me from across the room, and she's really not happy with my new look. I swear I can feel my skin siczle from her stare.
I whisper to Mave. "Mave, she's going to scold me for this dress. Look at the way she's staring at me."
"Don't let her get you down. The men can't take their eyes off of you. Their practically undressing you with their eyes."
I look around, and shes totally right. Their all practically drouling over me, and I don't know if I like it. I never received attention from the men, and that's mostly do to my mother's insistance that I stay pure before I gain my magic element. What was I thinking I should have wore my normal black long sleeve dress, less unnerving. I'm pulled away from my thoughts went I see my mother crossing the room towards me. s**t.
"Well daughter, you've truly out done yourself tonight. I'm guessing this is your work Mave?" As she looks to me with that evil sideways look, like how could you let her s*x you up.
"Why yes ma'am, doesn't Jinx look absolutely stunning. I finally pulled her out of her shell."
"It sure is something worth discussion. And that we will Jinx talk about this later."
"Of course mother, whatever you need."
"Well you to go enjoy yourselves, and congratulations Mave can't wait to see what the gods have in store with your markings."
"Oh me either I'm so excited."
Mother walks off and I see Mave scan the room for Kam. She's so lucky her life is going to plan. She was given the element of her dreams and the man of her dreams. But as long as she's here in my life my mother is bearable, and maybe I'll survive her crude nature.
"Earth to Jinx! Anyone home?"
"Yeah sorry."
"Jinx, I'm beginning to worry about you. You've been in your head a lot today."
*Sorry, just a lot to think about since my life is going to change so much in the next three weeks. Hell it may change me so much that we won't be able to spend time together. It's just a scary thought."
"Oh Jinx, you have nothing to worry about. You'll never lose me your my sister. I wouldn't be as strong without you by my side. Your the strongest and bravest person I know."
"Awe, thank you Mave. I love you so much."
"I love you, too sis. Now let get this party started and get everyone dancing."
"Mave, I don't think you should stir moms pot."
"Oh well this party is for me."
