Chapter 1: The Night He Forgot
Ava stood outside the glittering ballroom, her cheap black dress feeling out of place among designer gowns. She wasn't supposed to be here. She was just a waitress, covering for her sick friend.
Then he appeared. Ethan Blackwood. The billionaire everyone whispered about. Cold, ruthless, handsome.
"Are you lost?" His voice was low behind her.
"I work here," she stammered, holding her tray tight.
He smirked, stepping closer. His expensive cologne made her dizzy. "You don't look like other waitresses."
Before she could answer, his hand was on her waist, pulling her to the dark balcony. Music faded.
"What are you doing?" she whispered, heart pounding.
"Something I shouldn't," he breathed against her ear. Then his lips were on hers.
Ava knew she should push him away, but for once, someone saw her. She melted into the kiss.
An hour later, they were in a suite upstairs. One night of passion she never imagined.
Morning came and he was gone. A hundred dollars on the pillow and no name. Just a cold reminder of what she was.
That night changed everything. One night he would forget. One night she would never forget.
Two months later, in her tiny bathroom, the pregnancy test showed two pink lines. Her world collapsed.
She tried to find him. At Blackwood Enterprises, security laughed. "CEO is unreachable for a girl like you."
Now three years later, she stands in the same building for a cleaning job interview. And hidden at home with her mother is a little boy with the same cold blue eyes as Ethan Blackwood. His secret baby. She swore he would never know, but fate has other plans when Ethan walks into the hallway right now and sees her.
"Do I know you?" he asks, frowning.
Ava's blood runs cold.
