Black Sockets

The twilight was about to take over. The grocery store I was working for was about to close. When I was finished with my tasks, I waited for my co-workers—who were also my friends—outside. Then, finally, one of my friends locked the door. I hugged myself as the cold wind passed by me. They were planning to go to the house of one of our friends to visit her deceased grandmother and stay there for some time, but I was hesitant because I was scared to go somewhere at night. But they were determined to make me go with them, so they persuaded me that I was safe with them. Due to their fervent persuasion, they made me go with them. The mourning place was in Santo Rosario, where her grandmother resided for many years until her death. While we were walking along the dim road—yeah, it was totally dark, but they brought flaslights with them—I positioned myself in the middle of the circle. For safety purposes, we were all holding each other's hands. Since it wasn't that late at night, we still had to secure our safety at all times. To ease the creepy feeling brought by the cold wind and dim pathway where no houses could be found along the way, we were just sharing jokes and silly stories with each other. And another thing was that we were approaching a graveyard, so I couldn't just shrug off the strange feeling inside me. Especially since I could feel and see them. I saw two men approaching us. Even though it was dim, I still managed to recognize their towering heights. As they got nearer to us, I froze and was taken aback. I saw their faces. I saw their perfectly tall and slim noses... and their thin lips. But... they have no eyes... They only have their black, empty eyeball sockets! I felt all my body hairs freeze and my heart stopped beating. My friend beside me flinched as I abruptly hugged his arm. "What's wrong, Ciela? Is there any problem?" he asked. "Haven't you seen the two eyeless men we came across with just now?" I hysterically whispered. Now I had their attention. "What are you talking about? We haven't come across any people," my other friend answered. My brows furrowed. How come they didn't see those people? I clearly saw them! I vividly saw them as eyeless! They just laughed at what I saw, and I disregarded it. Perhaps it was just the product of my tired mind from work. The house on our left caught my attention. When we were passing the house, I saw an old lady watering her plants, even though it was in the evening. When our stares met, I froze once again. I felt a chilly shiver crawling down my spine and as if someone had poured a bucket filled with ice on my head. Her black, empty eyeball sockets stared at my eyes! "Look! The old woman has no eyes, either!" I lowly exclaimed, subtly pointing my finger at the house on our left. My friends turned their heads to take notice of it. They muffled their laughter. "Nice scary joke, Ciela. You 'terrified' us! " my other friend sarcastically commented. No, I wasn't joking. "There was no old lady at that house," the other one shared. "Don't try to scare us! Because we're not afraid at all!" The other one exclaimed, and they all burst into laughter. I just looked down and breathed hard. That was why I didn't want to go somewhere or to any other places, especially at night, because... I see things that normal humans don't.
