CHAPTER FIVE

590 Words
In Averton City, Vincent had just received a call from one of the bodyguards he had assigned to his third daughter, Ilys, who studied criminal law. As soon as he ended the call, he immediately dialled Ilys's number. She picked up while taking off her coat. "Hey, Dad! How are you? I've missed you so much." Vincent's furrowed brows relaxed, and he smiled warmly. "Hello, my love. I'm fine. I've missed you too. How's work?" "Work's good. Everything's going smoothly, and the case I'm handling now has to do with someone who was falsely accused," she said. "What exactly is going on for thugs to start trailing you all the way to your home?" Ilys's eyes widened before she smiled and replied, "It's the case, Dad. But don't worry, I'll be fine." Vincent smiled. He knew the kind of person his daughter was. "I know you will, but I still can't help worrying. Ilys, be careful. Your sisters and I are waiting for you." Her smile widened. "I will, Dad. I'll be back soon, and I love you." Vincent chuckled and replied, "Love you too," before ending the call. He let out a sigh before turning to the man standing behind him. A dangerous glint appeared in his eyes. "Send Akira and Levi over to where Ilys is." Meanwhile, Ilys's expression turned cold and emotionless as she walked into her room. She took off her clothes and stepped into the bathroom. The sound of the shower continued for the next forty minutes. In the library, Nori and Goodness were returning their books to the shelves when they overheard two girls chatting behind them. "Apparently, Debby and John are back together. Someone saw them together at the mall yesterday," one of the girls said with a distasteful look on her face. The other girl responded, "I really don't know why they keep breaking up and getting back together. Debby's obviously too good for him, and he doesn't care about her anymore." Nori and Goodness exchanged amused looks, struggling to hold back their laughter. The girls continued mumbling to each other until they finally walked away. Nori broke the silence by imitating one of the girls in a British accent. "I don't even know what Debby sees in John." Goodness giggled and joined in, also putting on a British accent. "I mean, she's too good for him. He doesn't deserve her." They both burst into laughter. After a while, they picked up their bags and headed out of the library towards the bus station. At the basketball court, the young women had just finished practising for the day and were heading out together, discussing their classes for the following day. Callista separated from them at the school gate, as her house was in the opposite direction from where they were headed. It was already quite late. She got off at the same bus stop she had used that morning and spotted Nori a few steps away. She ran towards her silently, intending to scare her. However, Nori suddenly turned around and threw a punch. Callista quickly dodged by ducking and moving to the left. She chuckled and said, "Sup, little sis? How's Goody?" Nori retracted her hand and said, "You were trying to scare me, huh? Goody's fine. She just left too." The two sisters chatted as they made their way home. Meanwhile, Vincent had just stepped out of the bathroom, his hair still wet. He rubbed it with a towel he picked up from the side, got dressed and walked downstairs.
