“Relax, Daniel.” He claims a seat across from me. “I’m not here to cause any trouble. I told you I’m here to apologize for scaring off your wife. Congrats on the baby by the way.”
“Thank you.” I observe him and begin to fall at ease. He seems level-headed today. Maybe losing his business has served a great purpose in sobering him.
“You’ve done quite well for yourself,” he observes looking about the office. “I guess the better man wins in the end after all.”
“What are you talking about? There’s never been any competition between us.”
“Wasn’t there though, Daniel? Admit it. You’ve always wanted to one-up me.”
