Chapter 21
“Look! She’s holding Starlight!” Calista squealed. She bounded from the backseat the moment Lynn pulled into the area where they had arranged to meet the breeder. Morgan, who miraculously seemed to learn overnight how to unclasp her seat belt, leaped out right on Calista’s heels. Lynn and Alexis followed behind the girls, laughing.
Lynn glanced around the area, blinking when the morning sun flickered in her eyes. Instead of driving all the way to Annie’s home, she’d suggested they meet just off Highway 23 in Duffield, VA. It was a gas station, convenience store, and a McDonalds all rolled into one. They’d pulled out of the way into a vast graveled area where truckers parked to sleep at night.
