CHAPTER 4

LILY "My Lily, I'm here, and everything will be fine, it will all end quickly.", he whispered against my ear as I struggled to distance myself from him. "Let go of me! Help me! Help me!", I shouted as loud as I could before pushing Adrian with all my strength. I seized this opportunity to run towards the door, but he was faster, and I screamed as I felt him pulling me back. I fell to the floor again, my head hitting the edge of the bed. "I see that you're choosing not to cooperate with me, so I won't be gentle anymore, Lily." I was lying on the floor, my body trembling with fear as Adrian approached, his eyes gleaming with hunger. The room felt suffocating, the air dense with the scent of danger. I knew I had to act quickly, and my eyes darted around, searching for anything that could help me escape the clutches of the menacing vampire. In the dimly lit room, my gaze fell upon a large piece of glass on the floor, remnants of a shattered mirror. As Adrian leaned down to bite my neck, driven by his vampiric instincts, my survival instincts kicked in. With a surge of strength fueled by fear and desperation, I grabbed the shard of glass and thrust it into Adrian's side. A guttural growl escaped Adrian's lips as he recoiled, his crimson eyes narrowing in pain. I seized the opportunity to scramble to my feet, my heart pounding in my chest. Blood dripped from Adrian's wound, but he remained relentless, his predatory gaze fixed on me. I fled towards the door, my movements fueled purely by adrenaline. The stairs loomed ahead, promising escape, but just as I thought I might make it, a strong grip closed around my arm. Adrian, wounded but not defeated, yanked me back, causing me to stumble and fall onto the steps. The impact sent shockwaves through my body, and a sharp pain throbbed in my head. Fear enveloped me as I instinctively cradled my pregnant belly, my thoughts racing to the life growing inside me. Panic mingled with dizziness as I struggled to rise. "Adrian, please...", "It will all end, Lily!" In the haze of pain and disorientation, my mind turned to Dylan, the wolf shifter I had encountered in the forest. I clutched the necklace he had given me, a small but comforting talisman. The engraved symbol seemed to pulse with a faint warmth. Dylan Stark I kept repeating his name in my mind several times; I needed help, and Dylan promised he would provide it. As I staggered down the stairs, the atmosphere in the tavern had changed. The chaotic frenzy had subsided, replaced by hushed whispers and curious glances. My disheveled appearance drew concerned looks from the few patrons present. I moved with unsteady determination, each step a battle against the pain and the encroaching darkness at the edges of my vision. Adrian pursued, his relentless pursuit evident in the menacing aura that surrounded him. My vision blurred, and my steps faltered. I was on the verge of collapse when a gust of cool night air swept through the tavern's entrance, accompanied by the sound of the door creaking open. A familiar silhouette filled the entrance. Dylan, the wolf shifter. His green eyes held a mixture of concern and determination. Without hesitation, he advanced, his lupine form now that of a protective ally. The presence of the alpha wolf filled the tavern with an energy that seemed to repel Adrian. Dylan's voice resonated with authority as he faced the threatening vampire. "You're not welcome here; vampires cannot cross the boundary in the forest!" Adrian, sensing the threat posed by the alpha, hesitated. I, still dizzy and weakened, watched as the two supernatural beings faced off. The tension in the room escalated, and the patrons looked on with a mixture of fear and awe. With a reluctant snarl, Adrian retreated, disappearing into the night. The tension in the tavern dissipated, replaced by a collective sigh of relief. Dylan, his gaze never leaving me, approached with a mixture of concern and reassurance. "Now you're safe, Lily.", he said, his voice a soothing balm. Overwhelmed by the events that had unfolded, I managed a weak smile. The presence of the wolf shifter, the embodiment of protection and strength, provided a glimmer of hope in the darkness that had threatened to consume me. I blinked my eyes several times before looking back at him. Adrian was no longer here, but I knew he wouldn't give up. I felt intense pain throughout my body as Dylan's hand touched my arm; I was very hurt, and I couldn't get up on my own. Concern overtook my body because I was very worried that something had happened to my baby after I fell down the stairs. As I accepted Dylan's supportive hand, we walked out of the tavern, leaving behind the echoes of a distressing encounter. The moonlit night held the promise of a new beginning, and as we ventured into the unknown, I clung to the hope that the challenges ahead could be faced with the strength I had discovered in the most unexpected allies. "Are you okay? You're bleeding, Lily.", I raised my head, seeing Dylan touching my head, and it made me groan in pain at his touch. I felt very dizzy and weak again; probably, I hit my head very hard. I kept looking at the wolf in front of me, wondering how he managed to find me. As I looked into Dylan's green eyes, I wondered what would have happened to me if he hadn't been here at that moment. I would surely be dead by now. "Dylan, I don't think I'm well.", I said weakly, touching my belly, struggling to stay awake. We were in the village when I felt weaker, and before I could collapse to the ground, I felt Dylan's strong arms holding me against his body. "I'll take care of you and your baby, sweet Lily.", he said before I closed my eyes and saw only darkness around me. Destiny. That was the word dominating my mind incessantly. I had a baby inside my belly, and I needed to keep him safe, but to do that, I had to stay safe too. My life was perfect next to the man I loved, but it had changed quickly, and now only fear remained in my life. Adrian wouldn't stop trying to find me, and I was afraid of that. I opened my eyes, still feeling my head hurting a lot, but I knew Dylan was leading me towards the mountain in the forest. I was in the arms of a wolf, pregnant and very vulnerable, but in his arms, I felt some kind of security I had never felt before. "Dylan.", I whispered his name, touching my belly. I tried to stay awake, but this mission seemed very difficult. "I'm here, you'll be okay, and nothing and no one will hurt you, Lily. I will protect you; I will protect you and your baby." "How did you find me?" "I told you I would always be nearby." I just wanted a safe place for my baby, a secure place where Adrian could never find and hurt him, and for a moment, I was thinking that this safe place would be next to Dylan Stark.
