December 1873Jesse James Letter to The Kansas City Loyalist Dillon, Montana, Dec. 25th Dear Mr. Editor, Will you please correct my composition and spelling and publish these words in your newspaper? You will see I never had the benefit of an education as it was cut short when a foreign power, which I need not name, invaded my country, and I was forced to take up arms to defend her. Sometimes a few newspapers reach me in this far-flung place, and from those I see that me and my brother supposedly robbed a*****e in Cass County some weeks ago. We are likewise accused of robbing the train at Gads Hill, the Gallatin bank, the one at Ste. Genevieve, & some others over in Kentucky.
