Preface
View of Chapter Nine; The Ice Sword
Please, please…! Citrus thought desperately. The man in black got even closer. Citrus tugged on the sword, trying to free it from its prison.
“Goldstone, this is the end!” The man yelled, “You don’t even need to try. That sword was built into the rock.” In one swift move, the man was by her side. Citrus sweated. She tugged harder on the sword. And this time, it came free.
“That’s what you think!” Citrus swung the sword around, surprised that the grip was even, unlike the sword clipped to her ankle. She hit the man, probably scarring him. Citrus then realized the man’s name was inscribed on his coat. Bullet, the sleeve read. Bullet doubled over, clutching his bleeding wound.
“What have you done?” The man asked in and angry and deep tone. He took his hand away from his stomach, revealing a large gash that was really gushing blood. It looked really bad.
“I’m-” Citrus started, before she realized she wasn’t supposed to apologize to the enemy. “I’m… Uh… I’m… Glad that I got that sword out?” Bullet scowled.
“You i***t!” He screamed, tapping his watch in a repetitive pattern. In a few seconds, he dematerialized. Citrus sighed and squatted, inspecting the sword. It seemed to be forged from ice, or at least coated with it. Citrus touched the tip gently. When she pulled her hand away, she was bleeding a little.
It’s sharp. Citrus thought. Even her own house knives wouldn’t prick her at the slightest touch. There was a set of runes inscribed on the sword handle. It looked like gibberish. But Citrus recognized the first word. She didn’t know how, she just did. Citrine. Citrus gasped. That was her first name. Citrus squinted and was stunned to find she could read the rest. Citrine Citrus Flynn Goldstone.
“No way…” Citrus whispered. No one knew Citrus’ second middle name was Flynn. Not the Gemstones, and not even the Gems. So how did this random sword from a rock know? There were tiny words written beside Citrus’ name, but Citrus couldn’t read them. Even if she squinted really hard. Citrus stood up and scrolled through a list of names on her watch. She stopped on the one that read; Gemstone Sophia. Citrus’ finger hovered over the button she knew she needed to press. After a deep breath, Citrus clicked; CALL.
