Cassie The knock on the classroom door made my heart skip a beat. “Come in,” the teacher called. A woman dressed in a navy-blue suit stepped inside and glanced around the room before her eyes landed on me. “Cassandra Blake?” I immediately stood. “Yes, ma’am.” “The Principal would like to see you.” A nervous knot formed in my stomach. “The… Princ…ipal?” She nodded. “Now.” Every pair of eyes in the classroom turned toward me as whispers immediately broke out. “What did she do?” “Didn’t she just arrive yesterday?” “I heard she got into a fight with Andrew Morgan.” My pulse quickened. Fight? No… I didn’t fight with anyone. Yesterday’s incident suddenly flashed through my mind. Andrew Morgan. The Alpha heir. The arrogant jerk who had torn my bag apart. My fingers trembled slightly as I gathered my things. Had he filed a complaint? Was I about to be expelled? I had promised Mom I would make the most of this opportunity. She had sacrificed everything to bring me here. How was I supposed to face her if I got thrown out on my second day? Trying to calm my racing heart, I followed the staff member through the quiet corridors until we stopped outside an elegant wooden door on it were pasted boldly, Principal’s Office. “Go on in,” she said before walking away. I inhaled deeply and knocked. “Come in.” I heard her call. I pushed the door open. The first person I saw made me stop in my tracks. Andrew Morgan. He lounged comfortably in one of the chairs opposite the Principal’s desk, one ankle resting over the opposite knee as though he owned the entire academy. His posture screamed confidence Or was it arrogance? Probably both. He didn’t even bother looking at me. Spoilt Alpha heir. I silently rolled my eyes. The school principal, Mrs. Hawthorne, looked up and smiled warmly. “Miss Blake, please come in.” The knot in my chest loosened. If she was smiling… Maybe I wasn’t being expelled after all. “Good morning, ma’am.” “Good morning, Cassandra.” She gestured toward the empty chair beside Andrew. “Please, have a seat.” I reluctantly sat beside him. Even from this close, he acted as though I didn’t exist. Mrs. Hawthorne folded her hands on the desk. “Mr. Morgan, as I explained before Miss Blake arrived, because of the position you hold within the Blood Moon Pack and because of your father’s immeasurable contributions to this institution, the board has decided to give you one final opportunity to improve your grades.” I blinked. Improve… his grades? I fought hard to keep a straight face. So the school bully wasn’t exactly a genius. It was almost funny. Just like the novels I used to read. The rich, popular bullies were always the ones struggling academically. “Alright, I get it,” Andrew said impatiently, already rising from his seat. “Can I leave now?” “You may not.” Mrs. Hawthorne’s calm voice stopped him. She motioned for him to sit. “I’m not finished.” Andrew let out an irritated sigh before dropping back into his chair. Principal Hawthorne turned toward me. “Miss Blake…” I looked up attentively. “Based on your academic record, particularly your outstanding performance at your previous school, the school board has unanimously agreed that you are the most qualified student to tutor Mr. Morgan.” My eyes widened. “I’m… what?” Beside me, Andrew shot to his feet. “What?” We both spoke at exactly the same time. Principal Hawthorne ignored Andrew completely. “It is the least you can do to show your appreciation to the founder and chief executive of this institution.” She said to me, My mouth opened, then closed again. I understood immediately. I was here on a scholarship and this was my way of showing appreciation to them. This wasn’t a request. It was an assignment and I had no choice. “There is absolutely no way I’m agreeing to this,” Andrew snapped. “I don’t need a tutor, especially not her.” He pointed at me like I was something unpleasant. Mrs. Hawthorne merely sighed. “Sit down, Andrew.” “No, I’m telling my father right now!” Mrs. Hawthorne nodded. “Well, your father is aware of this meeting.” Her words stopped him instantly. She pointed toward the conference phone sitting on her desk. Only then did I notice the blinking light. Someone had been on the line the entire time. Andrew’s expression changed. “Dad?” He reached toward the phone. “You knew about this?” A deep, commanding voice echoed through the office. “You will obey every instruction you have just been given.” The authority in that voice sent chills racing down my spine. Even without seeing him, I knew exactly who it was. Alpha Lewis Morgan. The leader of the strongest pack in the world. The Blood Moon Pack. A man feared by both allies and enemies alike. Andrew clenched his jaw but remained silent. “Miss Blake.” My head snapped toward the phone. “Y-Yes, sir.” “You will tutor my son.” His voice was calm yet cold. The kind of calm that made people obey without question. “I expect you to ensure he passes every subject.” “I… I understand, sir.” I barely managed to find my voice. Just when I thought the conversation was over, his voice came again. “And one more thing.” The room fell silent. “This meeting never happened.” A heavy pause followed. Then his next words settled over the room like a dark cloud. “Keep this arrangement a secret.” His voice lowered ever so slightly. “Otherwise…” My heart thumped as I listened. “…There is always a price to pay.” The call disconnected. For several long seconds, no one spoke. I swallowed hard. Something told me my life at WestBrooke High had just become far more complicated.
