I borrowed some money from my friend, Julie and rented a small apartment. For now, Mom and Jenny were living there.
Although Mom never had any demands on me, I was an adult now, and the oldest in the family. It was my responsibility to take charge.
Mom and my sister’s lives depended on me, so I couldn’t afford to dwell on sadness.
It was holiday time, so I decided to use this period to find a part-time job and make some money.
I gently patted Jenny’s head to comfort her.
“Don’t be afraid. Before school starts, I’ll find a way to get your tuition together. I’ll make sure you can go to school.”
Jenny felt bad about putting the responsibility of our lives on me. She lowered her head and stayed silent.
I’m a performing arts student, and after the summer break, I’d be starting my second year.
It’s hard to make money acting right now. I don’t have my own agent yet, and no one would want to help me.
I remembered a senior from my university. She’s now a small celebrity and might be able to help me get some minor roles.
I immediately called her. Luckily, she hadn’t forgotten about me and quickly got me an audition for a minor role next to the female lead. Excited, I grabbed my things and went to the audition.
But, to my surprise, that role had already been taken by another woman.
When I arrived at the set, everyone looked at me with surprise, scrutinizing me up and down.
I felt embarrassed and quickly left in a hurry.
But life had to go on. I contacted several advertising agencies, hoping to get some modeling work.
I’d take anything at this point. I really needed the money.
My friends introduced me to some jobs, but strangely, even though the agencies agreed initially, they suddenly called and canceled our deals.
After this happened a few times, I realized that Frank was behind it, blocking my chances.
He was deliberately trying to stop me from making any money to force me to give in.
I stomped my feet in frustration on the side of the road. How could there be such a terrible person in the world?
After running around all morning, I still hadn’t gotten any results.
I was disappointed but didn’t give up. I believed that life would eventually get better.
Just as I was about to head to the next company, I suddenly saw a woman’s image on the big screen in the square.
Her smooth skin stood out under the camera. Even though it was just a shot from behind, I could still see a birthmark in a rose-pink shade on her body.
That was my birthmark!
How could the woman in this ad be me?
I don’t remember ever filming such an advertisement!
What shocked me even more was the tagline at the bottom. “That night was too rushed, were you also looking for me?”
It was a lipstick ad, and the screen froze on the woman’s birthmark.
The design, which featured a lipstick the same color as the birthmark, sparked many people to stop and discuss.
But I couldn’t hear anything. My mind was full of questions.
Then the screen changed, and a man, who seemed to be a host, appeared. He stared at the camera as if looking at someone, and said:
“Last month, the CEO of Ford Group, Albert, returned to the country and personally designed this ad. Were you also longing for that night? I’ve been looking for you, what about you?”
Passersby started talking about what the last sentence meant. It seemed like it wasn’t directed at the audience but at someone specific.
Could it be that the CEO, who had so much wealth, was using this ad to find someone?
Everyone was curious about it.
But my head suddenly started to throb.
Could it be that the man I spent the night with that day was Albert?
Oh my god! This was too crazy!
I had somehow gotten involved with a billionaire CEO!
But right now, I was just a poor girl who couldn’t even afford to eat.
My head spun, and I instinctively walked to the bus stop.
Inside the financial building’s lobby, I sat in a chair, my heart racing.
I had completely given up on my afternoon interview because I had something more important to figure out.
Was the man from that night Albert?
How could he expose my body in that ad?
I felt furious.
Even though I was poor, I still had my own dignity!
He didn’t ask me, just went ahead and exposed me to the public. This was too much! It was so disrespectful!
And that ad was so explicit. If my identity were exposed, everyone would know that our relationship was far from simple.
What should I do?
Suddenly, a thunderclap flashed outside, shaking me in fear.
My mind was in chaos until the building emptied out.
Albert must have been off work by now. I originally wanted to wait for him and stop him as soon as he came downstairs.
But the front desk kicked me out.
How embarrassing!
The rain started to pour, and I thought of my poor mother and Jenny still sitting in that house, waiting for me to come home.
I rushed to grab my bag and dashed into the rain to go back home.
The rain was so heavy that I didn’t even notice the Rolls-Royce that suddenly drove up beside me.
The car almost hit me, and I froze, too scared to move.
The man inside the car looked at my face. His usually calm eyes showed a brief moment of surprise.
I didn’t understand why he was looking at me like that. I was angry. Did being rich give people the right to run red lights?
What if he hit someone else?
But he was driving a car I’d never be able to afford. What right did I have to talk to someone so successful?
If I angered this rich and powerful person, wouldn’t it make my situation even worse?
I held back my anger and turned to walk away, but the car slowly pulled up beside me.
It stopped, and the window rolled down, revealing the man’s face.
It was a face so handsome it seemed almost unreal. He looked at me, his voice as cold as ice.
“I found you.”
