When April Grayson’s bathroom ceiling collapses, she loses more than just a home, she loses her sense of balance. Forced to move in with her overprotective brother, she never expects to be thrown into the orbit of his dangerously attractive, tattooed roommate, Nathaniel Linwood. He’s everything she shouldn’t want: sweet, magnetic, and undeniably forbidden. But resisting him proves harder than she imagined, and the closer they get, the more impossible it becomes to keep secrets from her brother and from her own heart.

Chapter One – The Ceiling Fell Down
I didn’t know that ceilings could fall down. I thought they just stayed up there forever, like the sky. But today, the sky in my bathroom decided to crash down on me. It started with a drip. Then another drip. I thought maybe I left the tap on, but when I looked up, there was a dark, ugly stain above my head. It looked like a monster face. Before I could move, the plaster broke, and water poured down like rain inside the house. My shampoo bottle floated away like a tiny boat. I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. My whole bathroom was ruined, and the people who came said it was dangerous to stay. They told me, “You can’t live here anymore, miss.” Their voices were serious, and my heart felt like it was sinking. So I packed a small bag, just a few things I could carry, and left my broken home behind. I looked back one last time at my apartment. It was messy, wet, broken, like my whole life had fallen apart with the ceiling. That’s when my big brother, James, came to get me. James is strong, with a voice that always sounds like he’s giving orders. He hugged me and said, “Don’t worry, April. You’ll stay with me until everything is fixed.” His hug was warm, but I still felt like a little girl lost in a storm. James’s apartment was different. Bigger, noisier. And not just because of him. There was someone else there. When I stepped inside, I saw him. Nathaniel. At first, all I noticed were the tattoos on his arms. They curled and twisted like secret stories on his skin. He was taller than James, with messy dark hair and eyes that felt too deep, like you could drown in them if you weren’t careful. He wasn’t smiling. He just looked at me with a kind of quiet surprise, and then, just for a second, he smiled. That smile made my stomach feel jumpy, like when you miss a step on the stairs and think you might fall. “This is my sister, April,” James said firmly. “She’ll be staying with us.” Nathaniel nodded slowly, his eyes still on me. “Hi,” he said, his voice low, smooth, like it wasn’t in a hurry. I whispered back, “Hi.” My voice came out small, like it was hiding. The air in the room felt heavy, like something was about to happen, but I didn’t know what. I only knew one thing: this man was dangerous in a way I couldn’t explain. Not because he looked scary though he kind of did but because one look at him made my heart beat too fast. And that was the beginning. The ceiling had fallen, my home was gone, and now I was living with James… and Nathaniel, the roommate who made my heart race and my thoughts spin. I told myself: Stay away. He’s trouble. He’s not for you. But deep down, in the secret place of my heart, I already knew this was going to be more complicated than broken ceilings and ruined bathrooms. This was going to be the start of something I wasn’t ready for.
