CHAPTER SIX

NATHANIEL CARTER Immediately The Devil left, I felt like running after her to stop her from going and have her to myself. I didn't understand what was wrong with me anymore. Why was I feeling this way to someone I didn't even know at all and whom people have been speaking ill of. I didn't want problem for my life, I couldn't be with her. ' what the hell are you thinking, Nathaniel? How can someone like her like me?', I thought to myself and shook my head. "What the hell is your problem, Nathan?", Ken asked and I turned to him, confused about what he was saying. "What did I do?". "Since The Devil left, you've been distanced. Do you have a crush on her?", he asked and I choked on my saliva, coughing violently. "How could you ask such a question, ate you okay?". "But she wants you. It is clearly shown on her face that she wants you", he pressed on and I snorted. "Don't you think you're exaggerating? I mean, how can The Devil like someone like me?", I asked, more to myself than him and he bursted into laughter. "Do you think she can just come to this restaurant and want you specifically to to attend to her? You order for her, she gives you tips. Do you think she's like that?", he asked and I smiled weakly, tired of the discussion already. "I'm telling you, The Devil cannot have anything to do with me, I'm not her type. For f**k sake, Ken, were different in everything, were not compatible", I admitted more to myself than to him. "Just don't fall for her, you'll be in a lot of trouble if you do. Her world is really dangerous, you won't want to get dragged into it". "I'm aware of all this, you don't have to keep nagging at me", I snapped. "I'm just looking out for a friend, you don't have to act so arrogant", he fired back and left. I ruffled my hair and sighed in deep frustration. ******** SOPHIE WILSON We went home straight after eating at the restaurant. I honestly didn't know why I was feeling this way but when I was with him, I felt safe. Being apart from him wasn't an option but I also didn't want to drag him into my dangerous world. "We need to talk, Sophie", Sarah called out as I was about to walk to my room and I stopped, turning to look at her. "If this is about that waiter, then drop it, I'm not interested", I declared and she dropped her bag on the chair, walking to me. "Oh you've got to be interested", she said and I folded my arms. "Sophie, that guy is way out of your league. He's too naive and poor, you can't associate yourself with him" "Why?", I asked, amused. "Do you think he'll fall in love with you? You're Sophie Wilson, the Mafia King's daughter, The Devil, do you think someone like him can even think of falling in love with you?". "I never said I wanted to fall in love with him", I replied with a mischievous smirk. "I know you too well, Sophie, we're like sisters. You don't try to befriend someone if your not using them for your personal reason or to set a trap for the person. The poor guy hasn't done anything wrong for you to set a trap for him so which means either you're falling for him or you just want to use him for your own pleasure. Whatever you're planning, stop it, he's too innocent, you can't fall for him", she rambled and I sighed. "Then, what type of person can I fall in love with?". "Someone like you, someone that's used to your world, someone that you won't need to protect every time there's trouble......". "Someone like Adrian?", I said with venom in my word. "I....it doesn't necessarily mean it's Adrian, their other people who are like that, not Adrian". "Or Chris?", I went on, referring to James son. "Look, Sophie, I know what you're trying to do but it ain't gonna work. That guy won't even want to fall in love with you". "Then, I'll make him". "It might be easy for you to say but what about him? You're used to all this life but what of him? You can protect yourself but what about him? You won't be there to protect him every time, you know" "I do t get what you're saying". "Your father, Adrian, James Parker, Adrian's parents, do you think you can be free from them all?". "Are you trying to say I should go ahead and fulfil my father's wish? To get married to Adrian?". "Do you think Adrian would let you go to that waiter without putting up a fight? Did you think your dad will let his daughter get married to a commoner? Think, Sophie, think", she half-yelled and I sighed. "How many time do I have to tell you all, it's over between Adrian and I, and as for my dad, I can take care of him, he won't be able to do anything", I assured, more to myself than her. "He killed your mother, his wife, what makes you think he can't kill the person his daughter likes?", she asked and I growled, my countenance changing. "Sarah! You're overstepping the line", I threatened and she raised her hands in defeat. "I admit, I was wrong in bringing up that topic". "Whatever I do is none of your business", I snapped at her. "Sorry, but just know that you're alone in this fight. I'll be watching from a distance, don't just do something you'll end up regretting for the rest of your life", she advised , took her bag and ran up to her room. I stood there, clenching and unclenching my fists as I sighed in frustration. ******* THE NEXT DAY......... My phone buzzed in my pocket while working with my laptop. I brought it out and picked it. "Yes". "Come to my office now", he ordered and disconnected the call. I could feel anger radiating from his voice through the phone. Groaning, I picked up my car key and went downstairs. "Going somewhere??", Sarah asked, noticing my presence. "Hmm....the Mafia King wants to see me", I replied and she stood up. She went to her room to take her bag first before we left for the office. On getting to the company, we got down and went directly into his office. I opened the door slightly and saw him sitting down on one of the the sofas in the office. He was talking to someone so I knew he was not alone. I opened the door widely, indicating my presence and Sarah and I entered. There, I met the devil himself, the person whom I hated the most but my father loved even more than I, Adrian West. "Hey, princess", he greeted but I ignored him, turning to my father. "Why was I called?", I asked. He stood up from his seat and came to me. "I heard Adrian came to your house yesterday but you sent him away. Why?". "My personal isn't any of your business", I snapped. His fist connected with my jaw and I tasted blood immediately, cringing at the metallic taste. "Don't you dare disrespect me in front of other people", he warned, his voice hard and deep. I wiped the blood on my lips, turned to him and bursted into laughter. "Really? Then, I'll say it again. As long as I do all you ask of me, my personal life is none of your business", I fired back, staring directly at his eyes. "Uh....are we having a staring competition here?", Adrian asked, breaking the uncomfortable silence and my father looked away. "I find it funny to know that you came, whining to my father that I sent you out if my house, Adrian", I turned to him. "Were you his son in his past life? Since he seems to cherish you more than his own daughter". "Enough of your attitude. I'm setting a dinner between Adrian's family and ours to talk about your marriage to each other", my father said and I scoffed, unintentionally. "Excuse me? I think I'm old enough to decide my things myself and that includes who I want to be with. You can't just push me to someone like how mum was pushed to you and ended up dying", I nagged. "Don't bring up that topic", he warned, in between gritted teeth. "Oh! Really? Scared of letting people find out the kind of scumbag you are white killed his own wife?", I retorted. "Huh....I think I need to leave now, things are getting pretty heated here", Adrian stood up and left the office. "No more arguments, prepare for a dinner tomorrow by six", he ordered and went back to his seat. Fuming with anger, I stormed out of his office with Sarah on my tail and drove straight home.
