Selene's happy expression after reaching the tower to see Damon disappear once she saw him with some female in the bottom realm. When Damon began to touch the girl's hair, her eye and the gummy smile faded. They were chatting seriously, and the girl was making advances while giving a frantic and imploring look. What is her name? Why does she look Damon in the eyes with her magnificent yet sad expression?
'I went here...only to see you with someone else ha, how cruel!'
Selene closed her eyes while holding her chest tightly. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. She was doing it for almost a hundred and eighty seconds. Uncanny, but it's her way to keep her chill.
'This is weird,' she uttered while calming herself down.
She's in pain not because of the scourge, but because of some strange emotion that she can't define. It is a kind of emotion that she has never felt before. It seemed to have been around all along, but it was awoken from its slumber.
It's as if certain veins in her heart were severed, resulting in an imbalanced flow of blood circulation that causes her heart to ache. As though her brain can no longer accept the energy, and the emotion she conceived is too great to bear, resulting in a psychosomatic reaction. Too difficult to comprehend when all she feels at that precise instant is the emotion from which she awoke—jealousy.
Selene's eye appears fiery, as jealousy is seen in her crystal orb. Despite the bitterness of the situation, her eagerness to see what would happen next compelled her to continue watching, chasing down every detail of the scenario. It's as if she's viewing some thrilling movies with a hint of horror in them. The adrenaline spike increased the amount of serotonin in her body.
She was nervously pacing back and forth, nibbling her thumbnails. Her keen eyes scooped up on Damon's altered expression. Selene lets out a small cheer as she notices Damon eyeing the girl looking so pissed as if he's about to punch her any moment. Her eyes widened as she pondered on her earlier behavior, and she afterward felt bad for the girl.
Selene attentively gazed at the living mirror. She is trying to discern what had transpired and why the lady is already crying.
'What did you do, Damon? You made her cry, bad dog!' she exclaimed, her face flushed. Selene is behaving like a mad goddess while lecturing the non-existent Damon in her face.
True to that, Selene was a bit disappointed when Damon left the girl alone while she was in her most vulnerable position. Although it pains her to see him with other women, it is her moral belief not to let her kind be harmed by men. Charge to her mother's experience who was being tricked and duped by someone she is related to, not by heart but by blood -- her father.
'You're not gentleman enough, Damon. You made a girl cry, and you left like nothing happened, ha...' Selene uttered, shaking her head in disapproval.
'...you just lost 5% of my respect and admiration,' she added while clicking her tongue, creating a 'tssk' sound. She then pouts her lips and sulks away from the event.
Selene began to feel concerned about what may happen if they meet sooner. Will Damon treat her in the same manner as he did to that poor girl? Would he hurt her, or, worse, will he reject her?
Thoughts gradually enveloped her mind, and it adds up to her frustration.
'It will probably be his loss if he'll reject me. I have the most beautiful smile, I'll probably brighten up his day,'
Selene chuckled as she tried to persuade herself in order to boost her self-esteem. She is generally humble, yet it is also the nature of the goddesses to boast from time to time. It runs in their blood. Although what she said is genuine, would it still be considered boasting? Perhaps, yes in the perspective of insecure people.
A few minutes later, after coping up with her negative thoughts that stretch faster than light. She went into the wall's edge, which is protected by a glass window. The countryside below is magnificent, and she also noticed her miniature garden, which stands out the most. Her gazebo is surrounded by many flying species. Some symmetrical beings of various hues paid a visit to her flower wall. It's a beautiful sight to behold.
She remembers asking her mother to bring her to the tower every time her mother came to visit it for a pairing job. She will always sit in her favorite place, where the enormous window is positioned.
Selene recalls how she stayed in the tower not because it was beautiful, but because it was the safest place for her.
Some goddess from the second heaven will simply come to mock her. She was viewed as unlucky, cursed, and powerless—every word carrying a negative connotation. She had heard it all. It's because what happened to her mother has become widely publicized among the heavens and the demon realm. A historic and eventful wedding transpired in the heavenly realm, which unexpectedly caused immense destruction.
When Selene was born, it seems like she has to bear all the blame and shoulder the consequences of what had happened in the past. Despite this, she has no idea what transpired or what caused that fatal tragedy that it took her mother five years to restore her tarnished identity. The reason for that event leaves a mystery to Selene, it's like a secret that is only kept from her.
"Selene, let's go back to the palace. We need to prepare something for our visit to the werewolves realm," her mother utters after appearing in front of her which made her flicker a bit. The arrival of her mother enabled her to stop from her thoughts.
Five days from now, they'll be going to venture towards the werewolves' realm. Selene is a bit unsure what's with the delays when they could've descended there upon knowing who's her mate. Her mother doesn't give her any explanation like usual. Perhaps, she isn't ready yet to hand her down with her mate. Or perhaps she’s just busy knowing that she had some serious matters to deal with. Since she’s the moon goddess and her duty as a cupid with the mating pairing was a bit delayed.
"Isn't it too early to prepare, Mother? We still have 5 days to do that,"
"I know but isn't it better to have everything ready now?" her mother replied as it sits beside her. Her mother caresses her hair while looking at her with mixed emotions.
"Are you going to miss me when I'm gone?"
"Of course, but I have no choice. You're my baby but I don't want you to suffer more. I just want you safe, my one and only pumpkin. No more curses and pain. Whatever the distance you'll always be in my heart," her mother replied, almost teary-eyed.
Selene scrunched her nose as she began to feel emotional. Her lips were in a thin line, not wanting to give in with her emotion. Her mother gives her a tight hug, "I know you're strong. It will only be days from now, and you're going to change your fate. You deserve this, darling," her mother muttered in a whisper.
It seems like her mother knew her mate would accept her. Though she is not even sure about her mate's decision. Selene believed that her mother knows better. After all, she's the moon goddess.
"Let's go. I know that you're also bored staying up all day here,"
Selene gives a hearty chuckle as her mother tapped her back twice after their momentum. She sure knows her well.
"You've seen enough with your mate, right?" her mother asked with a suspicious look. The question itself holds a double meaning like she's a fish being baited by a fisherman.
"What do you mean, Mom?" she replied with an innocent expression. Her mind is strolling to the pit of her memory. Selene then remembers that one time when she saw Damon's body while he took a short swim in that blue lagoon. Her face suddenly felt hotter and hotter. By this time, she thinks that she's probably blushing, and she can't hide it anymore.
Her mother laugh's at her reaction. "Calm down, sweetheart. It was a harmless question,"
"Stop teasing me, Mom."
"I am not. You just take it in a different lens," her mother replied, somehow in a defensive manner.
“I know you, mother. Stop it,”
They both rose from the couch while Selene pouted her lips in annoyance.
"It seems like my baby's mind is tainted now, ha?"
"Motheeeer, stop it," she replied in a manner that looks like a sulking kid.
Her mother offered a cheeky laugh as she messed up Selene's bun hair. She then pats Selene's shoulder, and they both teleported back into the castle.
