The Rejection

1707 Words
"What do you want to eat, Lourde...Dame?" the head chief asked upon the arrival of Dame and Lourde in the kitchen. Damon pointed out his order with a distracted expression. The menu was simply placed on the top of the kitchen counter, making it accessible and easy for everyone to choose what to eat. "What are you going to do now, Dame? Have you asked your mate when will she show herself to you," Lourde broke down the silence and asked him with a confused look. Damon sigh in frustration perceiving that it may seem impossible for him to ask the other voice-his mate. He has no control whether where and when they can have a mind link again. "I'll wait for her to connect that damn mind link," what else could he do rather than to wait and be patient because his mate is a little whimsical. "Did she tell you her name?" Damon shakes his head, "No...she's very mysterious to me. I feel like something is off. I just couldn't name it, but she seems different," 'like she's from another dimension...' of course, he didn't say it out loud. Lourde may find him crazy if he says she doesn't seem like a she-wolf. Damon reminisced what had happened in the blue lagoon and how the hell did his mate knew his name and saw him based on her comments. Could it be that the pack doctor is correct or perhaps the history book? Without having a second thought, Damon rose up from his seat and stormed out of the kitchen. "Hey, where are you----" Damon left Lourde hanging and did not mind looking back at the kitchen counter. Lourde wasn't able to continue what he was about to say. As he only catches the last glance of Damon's back rushingly goes out the kitchen's door. Lourde shrugged his shoulder at the current events and decided to eat up his just-cooked food. "His getting weirder," Lourde commented while he chewed down his food. Damon, on the other hand, went straight into the pack's library. Though he has read all the academic, literary, and historic related books. He feels like something is missing. The scents of rusty-old and dusty books lingered in his nose as he enters the library, which made him sneeze a couple of times. He scanned the books on the shelves that were neatly ordered when he noticed the stand-alone book on a glass shelf. Damon raised his browsed, his spine-tingling with curiosity. 'Is this a new book?' Damon picked up the rusty book. He wipes off some excess dust on the front cover of the book. Giving him a fuller and more transparent view of the book's title and the person who wrote it. 'The Moon Goddess Daughter' He reads the title as he runs through his finger in the engraved letter. He raised his brows as he didn't find the author's name, which is a bit weird. The book looks old enough, but he has never seen this one before, or perhaps he had but because he pays too little attention to God's and Goddesses that he may not notice it. Out of curiosity, Damon went into one of the stalls and began to embark on his new journey. He started to stroke each page while getting immersed into it, each passing moment. 'The moon goddess found his love in the demon realm. Their love is not favored by the heavens, but they continue notwithstanding the persecution they've faced. However, during their marriage, the moon goddess love rival appeared. Creating chaos among the heavens and the demon realm. The moon goddess supposed to be 'memorable day' of her life was turned into an eventful one...' Damon took a pause after finding out what had happened in the story. Damon reflects the consequence of why such events occur. If only the God of War was loyal, the witch and the moon goddess wouldn't be fighting, especially since they were best friends, to begin with. If this kind of story happens in real life, the woman will be the most pitiful being. Acting like a shield or perhaps viewed as a villain when they're just reacting based on their man's doing. The root cause of this chaos was basically the man's poor life choices. Damon doesn't want to sound like a hypocrite but most of the time, man lives at their own comfort while allowing their woman to fight over. Damon shakes his head in disappointment. Although fiction, still, it is a very flawed story. Upon digesting the information, he decided to continue, 'Selene, the moon goddess daughter, was born. She was born with a burden, as she was cursed by her mother's foe. On her 18th birthday, she is fated to die...' Damon's face begins to look bitterly sour after reading the word 'die' he suddenly feels some strange emotion in his heart. He feels angry at that person who cursed Selene. Why did she have to bear the consequence of her mother's action? Isn't it a bit unreasonable to curse an innocent child? '...not unless she'll find her mate. Then, the curse will be broken.' His lips twisted in a happy form as he swiftly felt relieved after knowing that Selene could be saved and live. Achingly, Damon was to attach with the story and he hopes Selene will then soon find her mate in the succeeding chapter. He was already on the last page of the book, but there was something unusual in it. The story seems to have no end. He scanned again and again and noticed that a left-over part of the paper was visible. It looks like someone has torn it down. Perhaps, the one who reads it doesn't like the ending and decided to strip it out of the book in annoyance, or it could be the other way around. No one knows. Damon put the book back again on the shelves. He looked at his wristwatch and noticed that it was nearly 5 in the afternoon. It seems like he wasted almost 2 hours reading that book with no-ending and forgot his leading purpose as to why he comes into the pack library. "Oh, Dame! You're here?" Laya uttered as they bumped into each other in the library's door. He nodded his head in response and walked away. "Wait! Can we talk?" Laya spoke while holding the tip of his shirt, enabling him to take a pause. "Talk about what?" He replied while getting rid of Laya's hand on his shirt. He was very clear about his feelings. Damon is a man who doesn't give mix signal to a girl. He is the type of guy who doesn't like flowery words just to make sure you're not hurt. Because he will definitely destroy you with the truth rather than let you succumb to a lie. "We have a ball on Friday. So, can you be my partner?" "I have some things to do on Friday, Laya. I don't have time to attend a nonsense event. Ask Leon. He would probably say yes." And just like that, Damon walks out. Six days from now would be his commencement day, and he is getting very anxious as days passes by. He has a partner whom he has yet to discover, which adds to his concern. "Damon, until when are you going to treat me this way?" Laya shouted in a desperate voice--almost pleading. "Perhaps, what Leon said is true. You really hate girls. You hate me not because I'm a gamma's daughter. You hate me because I'm a girl. Dame, you should've said that you're gay. I will still accept you, though." Damon's back hair bristled with goosebumps. In his rage, his ears turned reddish. His wolf eyes glowed with anger. Damn, that motherfucker's mouth. What type of nonsense did he propagate this time? He looks back and stares at Laya. She became as white as snow. As if all the blood in her body had been sucked out. Her eyes widen when she notices Damon's irritated expression as he strides forward to where she is held frozen. "What the heck did you say?" Damon asked yet Laya was silent. "You're old, but it seems like you still have a peabrain..." he uttered while giving Laya a spoof laugh. "This is why you and Leon are suitable for each other. Idiots and believers of fake news, right hun?" Damon smirked while teasingly finger brushing Laya's hair. His patience is almost drowned out, but Damon is trying his best to remain calm. "T-then why do you keep rejecting me?" Laya, in a whisper-like voice, spoke while bowing her head in pain and confusion. Girls in his pack are so eager and desperate to gain his attention but Laya's attitude is topnotch. Her thick-faced always won. Damon doesn't like repeating something, but for Laya's sake, he tried. "I already made myself clear to you, Laya. Don't take it in the wrong way. I just don't like to play with your feelings. I am not doing this out of arrogance but as sincerity to you," Damon tapped Laya's head before turning out. He hears Laya's agonizing sobs as he walks away. He appears to be able to relate to her current emotions at some point. After his harsh word, he realizes that Laya is still a girl and girls are overly sensitive. At some point, he pitied her, but he can't just give in to her out of sympathy. Love is a double edge sword. Both sides are harmful, and no matter which side you are on, you will still experience bleeding. What he did was for Laya's sake. Damon knows that if he’ll say yes and be Laya’s partner in that ball. She’ll hope and may take it in the wrong way. That’s how desperate she-wolf’s in his pack. Now, it's up to her whether she takes it positively or negatively; if she does, she'll know that his remarks are only meant to wake her up to what reality is. He isn't the right man for her, and she shouldn't force anything to happen. Love isn't strained because you can't call it love if you're just forcing yourself in it.
