THE COLD CEO SPOILED ME EPISODE 20 — “I’M YOUR MOTHER” Hanna stared at her phone after the call ended. “Lola…” Her grandmother immediately looked at her. “What happened?” Hanna’s voice trembled. “She called me.” “Who?” “My mother.” Biglang namutla ang matanda. “Isabella?” Hanna nodded. “She said she’s my mother. She said she’s been waiting twenty-four years to hear my voice.” Her grandmother covered her mouth. “I knew this day would come.” Hanna sat beside her. “Lola, I need the truth. Please. No more secrets.” The old woman held her hand. “Your mother loved you, Hanna.” “Then why did she leave me?” “She didn't want to leave you. She was trying to protect you.” “Protect me from who?” “I don't know everything.” “But you know something.” Her grandmother sighed. “Your mother was being threatened. She believed that if she stayed with you, someone would hurt you.” Hanna wiped her tears. “Did she ever come back?” “Yes.” “When?” “When you were six.” Hanna froze. “She saw me?” “Yes. She watched you from a distance.” “Why didn't she come to me?” “Because she was afraid.” Hanna looked down. “I spent my whole life thinking nobody wanted me.” Her grandmother pulled her into a hug. “Never think that, anak. Your mother loved you.” A car suddenly stopped outside. Hanna looked through the window. It was Michael. --- Michael entered the house and immediately noticed Hanna's red eyes. “What happened?” Hanna looked at him. “My mother called.” Michael froze. “Isabella?” “Yes.” “What did she say?” “She said she's my mother.” Michael sat beside her. “Did she tell you where she is?” “No.” “Did she ask you to meet her?” “No.” “Then don't meet her alone.” Hanna frowned. “Why?” “We don't know why she disappeared for twenty-four years.” “She might be scared.” “She might be.” “Michael, she's my mother.” “I know.” “Then how can I ignore her?” “You don't have to.” He looked at her seriously. “But you don't have to trust her immediately either.” Hanna became silent. Michael continued. “I know you want answers. I do too. But I want you safe.” “You always say that.” “Because I mean it.” Hanna smiled faintly. “You're really becoming protective.” Michael looked away. “Maybe.” “Maybe?” “Fine. I am.” She laughed softly. “Thank you.” Michael looked at her. “You don't have to thank me.” “I want to.” He smiled. “Then you're welcome.” --- The next morning, Hanna received another message. Unknown Number: Meet me at the old riverside café at 3:00 p.m. Come alone. Hanna stared at the message. Michael noticed. “What is it?” “Nothing.” “Hanna.” She sighed and showed him the phone. He immediately frowned. “No.” “I need to go.” “Not alone.” “She asked me to come alone.” “Then I'll stay somewhere nearby.” “Michael…” “I won't interfere.” “You promise?” “I promise.” Hanna nodded. “Okay.” --- At exactly three o'clock, Hanna arrived at the café. She sat at a corner table, nervously looking around. Then the door opened. A woman walked in. She was elegant, but her eyes were filled with tears. She stopped when she saw Hanna. For several seconds, neither moved. Then the woman whispered, “Hanna…” Hanna stood. “Are you Isabella?” The woman nodded. “Yes.” Hanna's lips trembled. “You're really my mother?” Isabella slowly walked toward her. “Yes, anak.” Hanna stepped backward. “Don't call me that.” Isabella stopped. “I understand.” “You left me.” “I know.” “You let me grow up believing I had no family.” “I know.” “Why?” Isabella's eyes filled with tears. “Because I was afraid I would lose you forever.” “You already lost me.” Isabella cried. “I deserved that.” Hanna's anger began to break. “I waited for you.” “I know.” “Every birthday, I wondered if my mother remembered me.” “I remembered every single one.” “Then why didn't you come?” “Because every time I tried, someone stopped me.” “Who?” Isabella looked around nervously. “The Grey family.” Hanna froze. “What?” “Your grandfather wanted you hidden.” “My grandfather?” “Alexander Grey.” Hanna stared at her. “Why?” “Because he believed you were the key to something that happened twenty-four years ago.” “What happened?” Before Isabella could answer, a loud crash came from outside. People screamed. Isabella grabbed Hanna's hand. “We have to leave.” “Why?” “They found us.” “Who?” Isabella looked toward the window. “People who have been searching for you.” Hanna's heart raced. Suddenly, Michael appeared at the entrance. “Hanna!” She looked at him. “Michael!” He quickly approached them. “Are you okay?” “Yes.” He looked at Isabella. “You must be Isabella.” She nodded. “Yes.” Michael's expression was cold. “Then you need to tell us everything.” Isabella looked at him. “Not here.” “Where?” “Somewhere safe.” Michael looked at Hanna. Hanna nodded. “Let's go.” As they left the café, Isabella looked at Michael. “You really love my daughter.” Michael stopped. Hanna's eyes widened. “Mom…” Isabella smiled sadly. “I can see it in the way you look at her.” Michael didn't deny it. “I do.” Hanna stared at him. Michael looked at her. “I don't know when it happened.” He gently took her hand. “But I do.” Isabella smiled through her tears. “Then protect her.” Michael answered without hesitation. “I will.” But none of them noticed the black car parked across the street. Inside it, a man was watching them. He made a phone call. “They found Isabella.” A pause. “And Hanna?” The man looked at Hanna and Michael. “She is with Michael Grey.” The voice on the other end became cold. “Then bring them both to me.” TO BE CONTINUED...
